I'm looking for a plastic container that's easy enough for my soon to be five year old to open by herself. It will be used for snack time at kindergarten. I only use BPA free plastic so I need to find something along those lines. Does anyone know of any?

I use tiny glass mason-type jars for my kids. The 1/4 pint jam jars (4oz) are a convenient size for snacks and are absolutely leak-proof when tightened down properly. The lids have also been a standard size for many decades!
They can break, but not easily. I've dropped empty quart-sized jars 3 feet onto concrete and had them bounce. The tiny jars are even tougher. You can find them at most grocery stores and hardware stores.
I needed some too when my daughter started kindergarten. We use Snapware. I recently saw a nice BPA free set at Costco...good price. Not sure if ALL Snapware is BPA free, but this particular set was.

Ziploc makes them in all sorts of sizes. I try to stay with the same company and styes, so all of the lids and containers match up..
Purchase them now so your child can get the hang of it before school starts.. Have her open the containers "to help you".. Using the fine motor skills will also help her when she has to hold crayons, pencils and pens in Kinder..
In addition to BPA, I'm concerned about PVC and phalates (plasticizing chemicals that can leach and disrupt the endocrine system) so I choose either silicone or items by iPlay or Green Sprouts.

I found some Sistema Klip It snack containers at Old Navy that are BPA free and easy to open. They have the smaller snack sized ones but the ones I bought are cube shaped and when you open them, there is one side with a flap over it for a sandwich and the other side has a divider so you can put two different snacks, or a fruit and dessert, or whatever. I really like the compact, reusable, easy to clean option. My four year old has no trouble opening it but it also stays closed well.

I like the "fresh pack" snack and sandwich bags They have some great, safe items. Don't forget a reuseable water bottle. Kleen Kanteens are safe! I think you can buy those on this site also.
I do not have a recommendation, but I hear that the BPA free plastics are not as safe as manufacturers would have us believe. They have other chemicals that leech into food/drink.
