Need Help Finding Preschool Around Gladstone Area

I can't seem to find any preschools that are not either church based or more like a day care. I just want to find a nice safe place for my daughter to go to school without too much religion and where she will only be around kids her own age. So scary having her be away from me. Don't want to make the wrong choice.

What can I do next?

Hi A.,

You could also try Montesorri, or a program through the North Clackamas Parks and Rec district.

I would suggest visiting the preschools (including ones at churches) while they are in session to see what feels comfortable. I know of at least one preschool that is at a church, but not "sponsored" by the church. Church buildings are often used as a cheaper rent option.

Good Luck!

Hi A.,
You might want to consider the Milwaukie Preschool Cooperative on Lake Road in Milwaukie. It is a wonderful experience for both the child and the parent. As a parent you are a helper in the classroom every other week or so. It is a great way to see how your child learns and grows first hand in the preschool environment. The preschool is located in the Milwaukie Presbyterian church, but is not affiliated with the church. The teacher has 20? years of experience and emphasizes the importance of socialization. IGood luck!

have you thought of the early learning center through the sabin-schellenberg center. it's in milwaukie on johnson road right near the 205. it is run through north clackamas schools and it is a learning program not only for the kiddos but high school students as well. there are 15 kids per class and one official teacher. then there are 3-6 high school students who are learning to be preschool teachers.

my daughter absolutely loves preschool. this was her first year and i can't begin to say how great she has done. she can write her name, count to 20, knows about 12 letters by sight and knows simple words by sight...mom, dad, cat, dog. and she will be 4 in july. i worked with her on most of this stuff before she started but it's really sticking in her mind since going to school. oh, and did i mention it's $70 a month for three days a week? (great, huh??)

look into it soon if you're interested because there was a wait list last year and i think applications have already been accepted for 2008-09. good luck!

A., there are two in Oregon City, one is the Oregon City preschool and it is located close to the Firedepartment. The other is at Eastom Grade School which is no longer used as a grade school. I wish you good luck. Three of four of my grandkids have gone to the Oregon City Preschool, however; it is a co-op and that means you have to volunteer to help out twice a week during classes and at all the fundrasiers.

This is old so I hope you check back.
Try PCPO, Parent Child Preschools of Oregon. They can put you in touch with the closest co-op preschool. Co-ops are religion free, you get to participate and the cost is extremely reasonable. Also, because of the high level of parent involvement you get to meet other Moms in the area.
My sons have thrived in theirs, Cathedral Park Co-op Preschool.

Hi A.,
Check out my website: http://www.portlandpreschooldirectory.com. I have a Milwaukie/Gladstone link from the front page that you can link to and see the different preschools in your area. If it is a daycare/preschool, it is listed that way. Milwaukie Preschool is a PCPO school (parent-child preschools of oregon), which is a fabulous way to go if you want to be involved. Good luck!

Hi!
We are actually moving our preschool to the Oakgrove area come July. Opening in September. We're currently in Gresham.
you can check out our website.
www.rubyridges.com
We offer a four hour program 3 days a week. I believe in giving the children ample time to play so I can observe their play and introduce topics based on their interests. We take 3's and 4's. We asked that they turned 3 before March 30th.

Let me know if I can help. If you'd like you are more than welcome to see our space here in gresham and then again when we've gotten all setup in July in Oak Grove.

My daughter is about to complete her first year at Marylhurst Early Childhood Center (MECC). I cannot rave enough about this school - wonderful, enriching environment. The teachers and support staff is amazing, and I have made many deep connections with other parents.

MECC is a great school and was a blessing for my daughter. I am so thankful she had the opportunity to attend. They focus on the importance of play or "Play is a child's work" and parents are always welcome in the halls & classrooms!

I don't know about Gladstone, but Oregon City isn't too far away. My daughter went to the preschool through Oregon City Community Schools ###-###-####)and loved it.
http://www.orecity.k12.or.us/files/upFront_classes_sum08_... We both adore Teacher Peggy and still try to keep in touch with her. She does an awesome job with the children. She teaches them all kinds of skills from social to academic. Depending on the age of the child they will attend either 2 or 3 days a week and about 2 to 2 1/2 hours per day. When my daughter attended 5 years ago a parent or family member needed to volunteer a couple of days each term (every 3 months). I liked that aspect because I got to see how the class operated and got to know her classmates.
