Hi Moms,
A lady my husband works with has done the nicest thing for our family. She had Easter Sunday off insisted on switching days off with my husband so he could have Easter off with his family. She is in her 50's and doesn't have any children at home anymore. I am so very thankful for what she did for us and I really want to give her a gift from the family to show our appreciation. She loves kids and I was thinking of making her an Easter basket but I don't know what to put in it. My husband said she would probably appreciate something homemade from the kids but again I don't know what they should make. So I'm open to any and all ideas. We are a pretty crafty family so i've got supplies just no ideas. Thanks so much for the help!

I also would like to buy her something so if you had anything non-homemade in mind too please share!! Thanks!

C.

So What Happened?

Hi Ladies, thank you so much to those who responded!! I had to have the basket done by last night,4/9/09, so my husband could take it to work in the morning. I decided to get a more functional basket and decorated it with some ribbon. I then got some teracotta pots and let my kids paint them and we planted bedding flowers in then, pansies, violas, impatients, and petunias. I put some easter grass in the basket to fill the bottom. We also put some chocolates and jelly beans in it. I made an egg shaped card and had the kids sign a little note to say thank you. I also made a dinner invitation and invited her and her husband over for dinner Sunday night, she should be off in time. I really wanted to add a lotion from Bath and Body works but the nearest one is over an hour away, we live in a small town. But the basket really turned out very nice and I am so thankful for every idea that I was given. Thank you so much ladies!!!

What if you had the kids paint a terra cotta flower pot and then plant flowers in it. My kids are doing that this year for mother's day gifts.

Since she doesn't have family or children at home anymore, why not invite her for a hoome cooked meal or take her a home cooked meal? I am sure she rarely cooks solely for herself much anymore. That or a nice gift card geared towards something she enjoys, like $10 at Barnes and Noble if she is a reader, movie tickets if she likes the movies, or even $10 at a local restaurant. Just a suggestion, a hand written thank you with the kids signing their names says a lot too! :)

Hi C.:

First of all, I praise you for being so thoughtful and truly "paying it forward." Your children could paint wooden eggs or terra cotta pots. How about a few dyed Easter eggs decorated by the kids? You could put these items in a basket or pail along with a sweet treat and some seeds or even a small stuffed animal or a travel size lotion or something from Bath/Body Works. Also, you could include a Thank You/Spring card with a message like, "You are an Eggs-tra special person." If you are a crafty family, use what you have and don't spend a lot of money. I'm sure you could get Easter craft ideas online too. All The Best, K.
