This is very hard for me to ask so please be gentle with your responses.
we have until July 31st on our lease and have already requested not to renew our lease. we have found a house to rent that we can move in @ July 19th (they are finishing up electrical work on the house). We were extremely late on last months rent (1 month), the rent is now caught up but today we recieved an eviction notice on our door, which gives us one week (until the 20th of June) to vacate. We have 3 young children. My question is does anyone know if apartments will work with you even after an eviction notice? It is for one month and we are caught up now. I went to the court date but with my husband working days and not knowing anyone here ( I had 2 small children in tow). We waited for 2 hours (from 1-3) our court time was 1:00 then left.I don't know what to do besides putting our stuff in storage and paying for a cheap hotel for the remaining month. I also ontacted the salvation army. Ironic I spent 3 years working there before moving here.

What can I do next?

S., are you connected with a church here yet? Our church has helped many families and I'm sure there are other churches that do too. Sometimes it's not with money but with a phone call to ask for favor for you. I know of many times that a simple phone call has helped people get into a place and stay in a place longer than normal.

Do not forget this: What you are going through does NOT define who you are!

Let me know if you decide to go the storage route. We have friends that work for some of the storage boxes that are delivered to your door. Maybe they could give you a special price. It doesn't hurt to try.

We will keep praying for you and your family. If you ever need to talk, please email me anytime. ____@____.com

I'm so sorry for your troubles. I can't even imagine how stressful that must be for you, especially with young children. I know that my husband and I often depend on or church community for help in rough times. Even if you don't attend a church regularly most churches have food pantries or other programs to help people with financial need. Try asking at your local church because there are local temporary fixes for homeless families such as CARITAS that will provide you with free housing until you can move into your new place. Residents of CARITAS stay in local churches and it is very safe and provides nutritious food to boot. But even if CARITAS will not work for you people at a local church that service the needy may have other options to recommend. The Richmond CARITAS office is at ###-###-####, locate don High Street. They can also direct you to some options. Staying in a hotel for a month is far too expensive and will just set you back even more financially. Maybe you can use that month to save up some money by relying on charity. Don't be afraid to ask for help. We all need it sometime. Good luck to you.

I am so sorry you are going through this. My husband and I have gotten out of the appartment world too because they are not understanding at all and cost so much! To them you are just a number. I did not think they could go through with an eviction when you had paid up. It is not like you were 6 months behind. You can check out the rental laws in Virginia...just google it. I had to look up the law once when it came to stuff breaking.

If you have to there is also a few Hotels in the West End that you can rent by the week/month. I am not sure where you are at.

Good luck!

You will have a hard time finding an Apt. without signing at least a 6 month - 1 year lease. There are a few month to month ones out there, but you don't have a lot of time to look. I would suggest putting your stuff in storage and getting a cheap motel until you move into your house. There is a really good one located right off Huguenot Road called
"In Town Suites". They have a decent weekly rate. (My ex-husband stays there when he comes into town to visit the kids). It's clean and in a safe area. The actual address is: 11551 Greenspring Road and the phone#is ###-###-####. You can see the sign from Huguenot Road.

There is a pretty good storage place also in Midlothian called Blue & Gray Self Storage. It is located right off Midlothian Turnpike on the right as you are headed west out of Midlothian. The phone#is ###-###-####. I found the rates to be reasonable and the people are very friendly.

I wish you the best! ~ K.
