Need a Recommendation for a Replacement Vehicle

I am the single mom of 5 kids - 3 are still in car seats thanks to the 60lb law - we may be in that situation for a while (my 8yo weighs 43lbs)....

I need a vehicle big enough for 6 people - 3 car seats....

I don't have a ton of money - very limited right now, so I need to know if there is a vehicle out there you think is reliable and roomy - - - decent gas mileage would be nice too.

I loved my caravan, but it only has 100,000 miles and is falling apart - something new breaks every month - this month it was the transmission, so I am not going to repair it again.

Thank you

So What Happened?

Hello Everyone....

In this rain with a sick baby - I had to get a vehicle ASAP - I found a lower priced used mini-van - Kia Sedona - - - not what I wanted, but it rates as a fairly safe car for me and the kids.

The law does not state that kids have to be in a booster seat until they are 60lbs. It says 6 OR 60lbs. You can verify this by calling any CHP or even checking their website on-line. I have a 7 yr old that doesn't weigh 60lbs, but because she is 6, she is legal without any seat. It is different than the 4 AND 40lb rule with car seats. So, depending on your comfort level, you can actually pull your kids 6 & older out of booster seats. It is more of a height issue anyway. They are trying to change the law to add a height requirement of like 54in or something like that but it hasn't gone through yet.

My husband and I own a teen travel camp and also have one child in a carseat. We recently purchased a Suburban off of someone trying to cut back on gas milage and couldn't be any happier. People are getting rid of these beasts left and right so they are going for a song. We do have to budget more for gas, but to get my niece (2) and nephew (8 mos.), our 1 year old and 4 adults all in the car with room for LOTS of stuff in the trunk it TOTALLY worth it. I am just sad I don't have the car over the summer. The camp needs it for transporting lots of teenagers and camping gear. Hope this helps!

We love our Honda Odyssey minivan that seats up to 8 with the jump seat in the middle row. Our 7 year old still uses a booster and there is plenty of room for more. You may be able to get a good deal on a used vehicle as Honda's keep very well. The price for a new one without all the bells and whistles isn't that bad though. I highly recommend this vehicle.

The Honda Pilot seats 8 and is the most fuel efficient 8 passenger vehicle. The smaller kids could be in the 3rd row b/c it's not super roomy back there. I do day care and have had 4 small children and 2 adualts in the car w/ plenty of room in the middle second & third row seats for storing coats, packages, ect... But it would be a tight fit for adualt between two car seats in the 2nd or 3rd rows. I do recommend this vehicle. We love our Honda Pilot & we're often talking to Pilot owners who say they're so in love w/ their Pilots- even after many years. I'd say try sticking to Hondas or Toyotas. Avoid Vokswagson like the plague!

Toyota Sienna. I had a 2004 and it was great for room wise. It fit 7 and there is one that fits 8.
They have one of the best safety reports on it.
