Hi moms! I live in Naples, Italy and would like to visit the Christmas Market at Stuttgart over the Thanksgiving break. Can anyone suggest a hotel and/or things to do while in Stuttgart? I have a 3 year old and a 2 month old and will be traveling with another family with a 2 year old. Family friendly is a must!! I'd also like to travel without carseats, so something near trains would be great!! Thanks in advance!

Hi,
there is a youth hostel close to the train station. A lot times Youth Hostels in Germany offer family rooms (if you don't mind bunkbeds :) ). We do sleep there a lot since we have 3 kids and hotel rates often are to high.

Your best bet is to call the military hotel on Patch Barracks or Kelley barracks. But do it quickly as they will be booked soon, I'm sure. There is a Marriot in Sindelfingen/Boblingen area that many Americans use. It would be cheaper than staying right downtown.
You can easily catch taxi to the train stop to get downtown. You will love the market. Be sure that your kids look up at the top of all of the different "roof" decorations at each booth.

Take the guesthouse on kelley Barracks, if your bring your stroller you can walk to the street car station or a baby carrier. It is about a 10 -15 min walk. Then the public transport will take you directly there, you only need to switch trains 1 time which is really easy.

C.,

the best bet to get a hotel you are used to like in the states is guest housing--but they will only book you about 7 days out. Only official travel (PCS, TDY) is bookable beforehand with date. you can get a hotel and then on short notice try one of the 3 guest houses Stuttgart area (though Robinson is a bit harder when it comes to public transportation use).

Public transportation is in Stuttgart plentiful.

On the stuttgart web site I think there are hotels listed that give you a "deal" when you book for the Christmas Market and you get perks like a public transportation ticket included for 3 days eg. See what you can find out through that site.

When you go into the Rathaus in Stuttgart (main market place) you can use the elevator to get to the top floor and see the market from up top. Is especially nice at night when the lights are on.

In the Rathaus there is also free childcare available(they like donations though) from about 2-6pm weekdays (age I don't remember though. They will take 3 years but I'm not sure of the 2 year old.)

Have fun travelling,

E.
