you mean gnats? those little buggers that are smaller than mosquitoes? or do you have fruit flies?

fruit flies are small like gnats. The only way I know how to get rid of them is to eliminate their food source - just like this link states...

If you have ANY fruit or vegetables - potatoes, tomatoes, etc. out then that is what is attracting them.

Trash MUST be kept closed. Taken out regularly.

Gnats and fruit flies can be tough to get rid of, but the main thing you have to do is get rid of any and all food that is causing the problem as well as anything that's contributing to the problem. That includes spilled stickiness and other messes, and removing the trash from the can frequently. No food should be left in the sink and if there's a garbage disposal, that should be run so that there's nothing left in there as soon as the food is disposed of. Keep surfaces in the kitchen clean, including the floor.

In other words, make sure that you're not feeding the flies. That's the only way to get rid of them.

We get them in the summer time in Georgia, but not when we were in California. I am thinking it might have something to do with the humidity.

We trap them by taking a jar and pouring in a little bit of apple cider vinegar and a piece or two of fruit. Then I make a funnel with a small opening out of paper and tape it to the mouth of the jar making it sealed around the edges. Do not have the tip of the funnel actually touching the vinegar, just hanging above it. The gnats fly down the tunnel but can't get back out! Good luck!

Sounds like fruit flies, not gnats. You need to take out all the garbage/recycling. Clean the trash bins. Check under the fridge/stove and in cabinets for any spills. Possibly clean your kitchen sink drains. Throw out used sponges. Don't leave fruit or veggies out in the open.

Set out shallow dish with apple cider vinegar and a drop of dishsoap as a trap.

I think my source was bananas. Once I stopped buying them and keeping them on my kitchen counter all the little pests went away.

You might have either fruit flies (plump little bodies), but they are much more likely in late summer and fall, or fungus gnats (skinny little things) that thrive in damp potting soil and moist shower-room walls where molds and fungi easily grow.

Kelly has a good approach for fruit flies. Any fruity liquor or wine will also work as an attractant – we keep a bottle of cheap sherry just for fruit flies (has lasted for years; they don't drink much).

For fungus gnats, let houseplants become dry on the top surface, or top planters with fine grit. Wash shower walls with a solution of borax and water, and rinse a little borax into the drain.

But you could have other gnats; there are many kinds. Good luck!

As a rule, are gnats in your particular area this time of year? The reason I'm asking is that I am wondering if you might have fruit flies instead. Do you have food like fruit sitting out in your kitchen? Or do you have a disposal in the sink that might have some fruit down in it?

Keep your fruit in the frig for now, and wash down your counters with vinegar. If you have house plants, check for root rot. Maybe the buggers like the root rot.

Are they gnats or fruit flies?

We get fruit flies this time of year. Some days they are really bad. There are many "recipes" for getting rid of them. I have a trap my husband bought me, but a cup will do to. I just put a little beer in the trap and it attracts them, they fall in and die.

On days I want a quicker extermination, I put fruit on a pan and place it in my oven. I leave the door open. When the bugs are on the fruit, I shut the door and turn the broiler on. Viola. No more fruit flies.

I am not certain why you have the problem. In our area, many of us compost and garden and they are attracted to that.

when I had gnats in my house It was actually coming from a potted plant - Who knew?! Check your house plants. Put them outside a few days. Also, flypaper. it is super icky looking, but does the trick. hang over your sink.
If you don't have house plants - it may be fruit flies, but my thought is the same. Flypaper.
