Nasal Specific Technique

has anyone had the nasal specific technique performed on them? my chiropractor recommended it and my ENT poo-poo'd it, but my ENT didn't seem very supportive of/have belief in alternative medicine. i am leaning towards doing it because i am desperate to get rid of my headache, which i thinks is a combo of a tension headache and sinus congestion. my chiropractor has done this technique (and has had it done to her) but is only licensed to do it in OR. i would like to hear from people who have tried it and whether or not it helped you. TIA

--i made an appointment with dr. Ilana Gurevich of Kwan Yin Healing Arts Center‎ for 1/26. someone mentioned her and i found a lot of good reviews about the center and her as well. hopefully with this technique and massage and chiropractic to relieve tension, my head will finally be painfree. here's hoping! i'll let you know how it goes.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

i've had this done by dr. gurevich twice. let me say that i really like her, she has a great bedside manner and really listens to you. as for the technique, it was uncomfortable but only slightly painful, no more than a raging sinus infection can be. i didn't get much result from it, tho i think it has more to do with the fact that i am not congested with mucus but that my sinus passages are inflamed from allergies. even then, i did get some drainage so i can see that this would be very helpful if/when i get another sinus infection. so if you have congestion, this is the technique for you but if you just have swollen passages, don't bother with it. thank you to everyone :)

Nicole I have never heard about a nasel technique as far as to relieve headaches but I use it all the time for sinus congestion and allergies. you can go to walmart and get a nasel wash kit or what i do is use a baby suringe (the green one, the kind to suck their nose)and fill full of warm water, not cold or too hot. tip your head sidways, not back or it will go down your throat. then squirt in the nostril on the top side and it will run out the bottom nostril. It in not really comfortable. If feels like when you get water up you nose from a swimming pool. this technique rinses all the bacteria out of your nose that causes sinus infections and allergies. you may also use a mild saline solution. Google Dr. OZ on Oprah. she had him on there and he talked all about it and how it works or just google nasil wash. It works really well for me especially when I get sinus headaches. good luck

I noticed no one responded to your question and I am guessing people don't know what it is. I wasn't sure so I googled it because I was wondering if that is what I had done when I was little and it was. I had it done in the 60's. I think I was 4 or 5. It was done a little different then, instead of deflating the ballon they popped it when it was in the back of my throat. My sister and I both had it done because we had asthma & allergies. We traveled from California to Portland to see this certain Dr. who did it. I guess he had done it to my older sister when she was 3 because she started have siezures and I guess the plates in her skull weren't matched up even when they went together so it was causing pressure??? Anyway he moved them and she never had another siezure. I don't know how much it helped us since I was little and really didn't know exactly what we had it done for and both my parents have passed away so I can't ask them. I really don't see what it would hurt to have it done, if it ends up helping that would be great and if not you sure haven't lost anything. My mom was a big believer in it. Good Luck

It's pretty painful, but I've seenit work great on people. Dr. Ilana Gurvich specializes in it. Contact her at:###-###-####. I would go to a doctor to have it done even though I'm sure your chiro. is grea too. Don't listen to your ENT, they're just jealous that they don't know how to it....heee.heee.But yes, it works & she's great. Good luck!

I've had it done and it helped my sinus congestion alot at the time, but I had to have it done twice cos the first time it only helped one side. I had it done by Dr Sandberg Lewis at the NCNM teaching clinics. I believe Dr Zabell at Urban Wellness on SE Division and 49th also does them. Both are Naturopathic Doctors. Yes it did hurt a bit, but it wasn't that bad and I'm a woos with pain.

I have worked in several chiro clinics over the last 8 years...and I am a firm believer in the use of alt. med. not because i work with chiros but because I have experienced the medical doctors and i have experienced the chiro's and to me and my studies, chiro just makes more sense being all natural. I have never (that I can think of) had a ailment that my chiro couldn't help alleviate. I think it's totally worth it, it is all natural. It's better to do all natural and use other mean last. It's all about the nervous system, and correcting the communication between them and the brain...medicine is just all about numbing the symptoms, not much medicine actually corrects the problem...hope this helps!
