Hi All,
From the last 1 week or so I am having this muscle pain (Not sure whether i should call it that). It started from my right wrist, then to the back of the left shoulder..I could not even raise my hand to put on clothes, then to the right wrist and then back of the knees, and inside elbow ( I mean not the elbow but the outer side). I am using Bengay almost daily and taking advil (taken twice so far). It aggravates in the evening ...I do not really notice the pain after morning. Why is the pain not going away? Right now also I am having pain in both my wrists and back of the left knee. Is it common during this season or its just like that?Just to let u know... I am 32 years old.

SO WHAT HAPPENED?™

Hi All,
This is in continuation of my above stated problem. I went to the doctor who examined me and told me that its some infection thats causing pain and she also checked me for cough which i have with phlegm (which does not come out of the throat). She has given me Amoxicillin for 7 days twice a day. Have u heard or experienced any muscle pain due to some infection? Its been 5 days now...but the muscle pain is only 25-30% treated...What do u think why isn't it going away completely?

What can I do next?

Antibiotics and Penicillins work for up to 10 days after completion. I would say that when 10 day have passed after completion of the Amoxicillin and you are still hurting, I would suggest going back to the doctor. If your doctor thinks an infection is causing the pain, give the Amoxicillin a good chance to work before complaining to the doctor. On the other other hand, if the pain gets worse instead of better during that time period, contact your doctor. I would also try over the counter pain relievers for inflammation such as Advil and Aleve to see if they give some pain relief.

Try Acupuncture a few times.... that might help with the pain that travels and the infection...

I've had what sounds similar to this sort of pain off and on for all of my adult life. I don't remember any doctor saying it was an infection. They have suggested muscle tension and a need to relax. I've had bursitis and another form of joint inflammation that I can't remember the name of now. Always they call it an inflammation and the pain has usually gone away within a few weeks. The recommend and I use ibuprofen for the pain.

When the pain doesn't go away they give me a 10 day treatment of a steroid and it's always gone away then. They say they don't actually know what is causing the pain.

During one of my last bouts of this sort of pain the doctor sent me to a neurologist who ran tests on the nerves in my hand and arm. this time that was the only location of my pain. He said I had minor nerve damage and maybe the beginning of carpal tunnel and proscribed neurontin, saying it was off label. That was years ago. The pain went away.

My brother is having a lot of muscle pain in his neck, shoulder, and arm. Right side. Because he's had back surgery they've been assuming it was related to his back. Recently they decided he'd torn a muscle in his shoulder when his bicep became noticeably swollen and hard to the touch.
They think this is a secondary injury related to the back stuff.

Anyway, the point of this is that his doctor prescribed gabepentin which does noticeably reduce his pain. I learned that it is the same thing as neurontin. It is a pain medication with a design to work specifically on muscles or nerves. I don't remember which.

If the pain doesn't go away you could ask about the neurontin.

Much of my pain was caused by carrying heavy objects with my hand held down at my side. Since I stopped carrying a 30 lb bag of leg irons I don't have as much pain. LOL Another cause of my pain has been repetitive motions such as opening a closing a car door dozens of time each day. You might evaluate your daily movements and see if certain movements make the pain worse.

This is very similar to what I experienced years ago. I could even compare wrists and see a difference in size; then the pain would travel to a different joint. I think it may have been rhumatoid arthritis. The label didn't matter because I was only in my early 40s and could not do the exercises that the 70 year old women in my aerobics class could.

I went on the Childer's diet for Arthritis. I eliminated all nightshade vegetables - potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. Also is tobacco, but I didn't smoke. After a few weeks the pain went away. Completely. After a while, I could not resist some fresh tomatoes; that night I had searing pain in my shoulder, just comfirming that the nightshades were a cause.

I hope that this is a help to you. It is oftem difficult to change your diet, but I feel so much better now, many years later. I have no bursitis, which I had in my shoulder. I have been able to eat more of the vegetables, but only years after not eating them, and after more recently eliminating foods I found I was allergic to (diary, eggs, gluten). I'm 53 and feeling pretty darn good!

Good luck; if you can, try eliminating those foods completely for 3 months and see if it helps.

Agree they do work for up to 10 days after the last pill. However after that if still in pain you could need something a bit strong. Give it a chance just yet and see but don't wait too long in case you need another dose of meds that are a bit stronger.

Yes have had the pain and it be an infection...the body is funny.
