My Mom is looking to move to the Grand Prairie area and she would like to find a nice gated "safe" community to live. My family recently moved to the area and really don't know it that well yet, I would love suggestions from you guys!
A PTA mom sent me a virtual flower from this site one day and when I clicked on it I thought, oh lord another junk mail website that's signed me up for bulk mail...goody :( but when I started looking in this site, I LOVE it!!! You guys are great, and I'm so glad she pointed me in this direction!

Coronado Estates is gated - it's off I-20 and Carrier Parkway - it's a Grand Homes community that was in closeout about a year ago - but being all Grand, they've maintained good value. (Disclaimer - I used to work for Grand as a sales consultant a few years ago :) )
Lowes Farm is not hated, but it is WONDERFUL, but it is a ile south of Grand Prairie in Mansfield.

I encourage you not to limit your search to gated communities. Most police officers will tell you those gates provide a "false sense of security." Unless there's a security officer posted there 24/7 with the gate, I don't think they're worth it for security's sake.
I can not recommend a gated community but I'm responding with two nice neighborhoods. Mira Lagos and Grand Peninsula. They are new construction and very nice communities with active HOA's and community events. Highland is a builder.

Actually here in the SW GP area you don't have to worry about needing a gated community also if you look at the SE Arlington area you are good to go too since we don't have a ba crime rate south of I-20 and anything SW Parkway in GP to Bowen Rd in Arlington. You also have safe neigborhoods in Mansfield. I have lived here since Jan 16th 1987 with my parents and when I looed for a house I looked in the 76018 and 76017 zip codes since I knew the area was safe for our son to grow up here.

I recently moved into Coronado Forest which is a gated community off of I-20 and Carrier. It's tucked away and SO quiet. The neighbors are very friendly. There are several houses for sale right now and a couple of foreclosures due to people having ARM loans and getting in over their heads. I definitely recommend it.
