When do you move the mattress down? My 6 month old just started to sit up by himself today so I'm now starting to babyproof EVERYTHING! My house is a bouncy house, it's that padded. LOL!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank's y'all! Stacy- I live with my parents and they have a lot of sharp (I mean SHARP) corners and brick fireplaces everywhere. Not only that, but very valuable original revolutionary war guns (we are historical reenactors) And they kind of refuse to work around me and my baby. So I get the joyus task of making sure he can't get to where all the glass and pointy quill pens are. So it's not just me being up tight. It's the fact my family wont really give me a break about putting breakable things up and away.

as soon as my dd was able to sit up she was pilling herself up. my hubby lowered to the bottom holes that day. also be sure to get the teething gaurd for the rails if you don't already have them on. and congrates on such a big milestone soon he will be all over the place. gl

Now is the time to move the mattress down. If he can sit up, chances are that if he gets ahold of the bars, hes' going to pull himself up, lean over and topsy turvey. Don't take chances at this point, you never know when they are going to learn something new. Take care

I'm not sure of the "rule" on this one, but what I went by was when my son could pull up to a sitting position, the mattress went down a notch. Or maybe more, depending on how tall your son is. Then once he could stand up and as he grew, I lowered it so that it always stayed low enough that the top would hit at his shoulders or higher. I just looked at the way my son pulled and reached, and I could tell when he was getting to that point that he could pull enough of his body over the top rail that he might topple or climb out. I hope that makes sense.

PS- I lowered mine in stages because I am really short, my crib was not a drop side, and my son didn't put himself to sleep for forever. So I tried to save my back as much as possible with having to lower him into it. I guess you could just drop it all the way down now. Also, I am a big fan of childproofing as much as you need to to keep your sanity. :)

Move it down as soon as he sits up. You don't know how quickly he'll be able to pull to a stand!

I would move it down soon. Once they sit up Nd get curious they can learn to pull up pretty quickly and then you run the risk of him toppling over the side if the crib. If you're thinking if it-do it now, your instincts are best.
