Missed Periods - Chicago,IL

Just wondering if anyone has had the same symptoms, hopefully it is not TMI. I have seen my doctor and she is not concerned....and it is not pregnancy nor premenopause, at least from the blood test results. It is driving me nuts though! I have not had my period since beginning of May. I am in my early 40's and have a bit of stress in my life (just moved out of state away from family/friends and my mom's health has declined tremendously over the past month, on top of family and working full time.) That said, I have always been regular, 4 week cycle to the day. I hear this is normal when turning 40; however, it seems a little crazy since it has been 2 1/2 months now. I am wondering if my recent increase of caffeine or recent reduction in exercise (used to run a ton) could have anything to do with it? I seem to have the regular symptoms....twinge, EW discharge, sore breasts, bloating, PMS....and then NOTHING!!! It also seems like the EWD (and even other symptoms) is more often...making it really difficult to know when to expect anything. I actually really thought I was pregnant b/c the constant discharge and sore nipples. We have been considering having another baby; however, I would really like to understand what is going on first. Any help is greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

Some women don't ovulate during stressful times. (I learned this from Dr. Toni Weschler's "Taking Charge of Your Fertility".) Sometimes ovulation is delayed. Sounds like another pregnancy test --if you don't start your cycle in another week or so--could be in order.

If there is an acupuncturist in your area (or one recommended and convenient to you), I'd try them. They can help with hormone balancing, reducing stress and cycle regularity (along with fertility). I've seen a couple in the Chicago area if you are interested, I'd recommend Dr. Vahabi. Her website is http://chiropractorchicago.net/. Good luck to you, A..

Sounds very normal for a woman your age under stress. Things just start to change. You may go back to being very normal for months at a time, then back to this fluctuation. One thing I would say though is that if you are interested in having more children, move on that. Go see a fertility doc if necessary. It doesn't mean you need to go the whole route, IVF, etc., but can get a little help if needed or be given non-invasive ways to get regular again (acupuncture, etc.) It just doesn't get easier at you age and I'd hate to have you miss your chance if a baby is something you really want.

This sounds like me. I would go 6 months without a period. I called my doctor, and she called in a prescription (for estrogen, I think) to start my period. I wanted to say, I'm not complaining, I just want to make sure nothing is wrong. When I saw her for my annual, I told her how this happened again. She called in another prescription, this time with refills.

She was not concerned at all. But she told me that the reason she wanted me to take the meds is that if I go too long without a period, when I do have a period it can come on really, really strong. And one time it really did. I was sitting at my desk too long (about an hour!) and had to run to the store and buy new pants! Nothing like that has happened since junior high!

My doctor wants me to have a period at least every 3 months, so she said if it's getting close to 3 months I should take the meds. I had to take the meds twice (I think) since I saw her last fall, but the past 3 months I've had a period.

I would keep asking your OB, just to be safe, but I do know what you mean. I recently turned 40, so maybe this is par for the course. My husband was hoping it was menopause, because we've decided we're done having kid and he doesn't want to have to do anything about it on his end. Hhmmm, he might need to rethink that!

Even though you said its not perimenopause, I think it is since you are over 40...sometimes your period will quit but start back up. I'm not sure what blood test you had, but the only way to check is to have your FSH tested, along with estrogen and progesterone levels.

I would check for pregnancy again...sometimes a negative turns into a positive if you wait a week or two

I don't know what is going on with you, but I am having the same thing. My last period was May 18 and no sign of it yet. I am 37, but, I have all the same syptoms you do, and boy, is my hubby tired of it! I am too, but I just wish it would come so that I can get on with everything. I am waiting to go back on birthcontrol once it comes....if you find out what it is, let us know.

Get your hormones tested, including FSH.It's probably nothing serious, you just got a little out of whack. The doctor can prescribe something to get you kick started. But if things don't resume as normal afterward, get your hormones tested again and again until you figure out what is going on. Good luck!
