Mega Life & Health Insurance...considering Buying Policy? Any Input?

We are self employed and in desperate need of "catastrophic" health insurance, and we had a meeting last night with a really nice salesman for Mega Life & Health. We signed up, and not until I wrote the checks did I realize it was Mega. I have a couple Dr friends that absolutely are against Mega, saying it's a rip off. So after the sales guy left, we did a search online and it was not good. We asked the sales guy to hold our policy & checks until we get some questions answered. Not to be picky...but I'd really like to hear from those that have or have had this policy, and what is (was) their experience. The price is right, and it fit's our needs. That's if it does all that is says it can do.

So What Happened?

We did not go with Mega...thanks to all of your input. We went with another policy that fit our needs and budget, and found a great rep. So if anyone is looking, let me know and I'll hook you up with this agency.

Hi C.,

I have not had Mega, but I can recommend a good way to get a reliable, good policy for a good price. I listen to Dave Ramsey and if you go to his website www.daveramsey.com and look in the right side margin under "Dave Recommends" there is a link to Zander Ins. This is an insurance broker and they will get you the best deal by searching through all of the deals out there looking for exactly what you need. I was able to double my life insurance and cut my premium by half through them. Hope this helps.

I can personally tell you Mega is horrible!! When I started in the insurance business I trained with them. If you are still looking I can give you advice on what the different companies offer. You do not have to meet me or anything. You can also go to my website and look at prices www.onestophealthandlife.com as well. Aetna is my favorite for many reasons and Cigna is coming out with a new plan I am very excitted about!

I've had Mega for my 19 yr. old daughter for a couple of years and have had no problems. She had some test run and the lab bills were fairly high. I called Mega and the lab and was able to work out a substantial discount of those fees. I was very pleased that they were willing to work with me on that. I would be interested in knowing what your Dr. friends have against them. It's like an HMO so the doctor's office visits are discounted and the list of available doctors is very big. Please email me offline if you want to talk about it individually. ____@____.com

Thanks! A.

I had Mega for my son and I had NO problems with them! The only reason we don't have Mega anymore is because I qualify for Medicaid now.

My husband and I are also self employed, small business owners. Major medical, health insurance is no longer affordable for this group of families. About 4 years ago we were introduced to a company called Samaritan Ministries. It is a Christian organization with many thousands and has been around for several years. They take care or the medical needs of others in the group. It is not insurance, but it is for health claims submitted on a monthly basis. There is a basic minimum of claims to meet in order to submit on a monthly basis and it is around $200 -300. For family we pay $275 a month. Please email or call me if you would like more information.
