I'm hoping my fellow moms can help me out with a GREAT marital family counselor in West Los Angeles. My husband and I agree that we need some help in turning things around and hope we aren't too late! Any suggestions in what questions to ask upfront to help ensure this is the person for me, us? Do we meet individually as well as a couple, or couple only? I'd appreciate any suggestions you great women have. Thank you!

Please feel free to contact my good friend Abby Zilch. She is a fantastic therapist, with a real forte working with couples. You can reach her at ____@____.com. I hope she won't mind me sending her email. I think that's the easiest way to reach her. Take care.

hello K.! i can't believe i can answer this for you, but i can! my husband and i recently started couples therapy. we have a really great marriage...it just needs a little extra tending to right now. her name is cynthia winn. her office is located in encino. her number is ###-###-####. she sees both of us at the same time. she conducts our meetings in a very structured way with a lot of respect and compassion. she believes in doing hard work and getting to the core of the problems. she is doing a great job. she is a little pricy. i'm not sure what the going rate per hour is but, my husband likes and respects her a lot (as do i!) and we both can be pretty cynical. we think she is well worth the money. our marrige is getting better, i can actually see it. best of luck to you. i really hope you find someone and make it work!

a little about me:
i am a sahm with an amazing 3 year old and a super smiley 5 month old.

As someone who has been married for 20 years I applaud you for reaching out for help. I've found that some years are better than others! I'd suggest both couple and solo therapy. In my view, most marital issues come from our unresolved childhood nuttiness, and we've got to clean up that act before we can move our marriges forward in a meaningful manner. Having said that, we "train" our spouses to aggravate our issues and couples work can be helpful in alleviating some of those touch points! I don't live in your area, but I'm sure you'll get ton's of referrals. Remember, interview the therapist before commiting, and if your husband is ambivalent, don't take him on the interview appts, just go yourself. Just because someone else likes a therapist does not mean they're for you. Good luck, and hang in there!

I have a wonderful marital counselor that you might want to give a call. Her name is Rita Aron and she is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Her number is ###-###-####. Her office is located 2730 Wilshire Blvd. in Santa Monica. My husband and I began seeing her while we were engaged and probably would not be married if it weren't for her help. She is very sharp and picked up right away that my husband is "a tough cookie" and she knows exactly how to get through to him (not to say that I don't have a few issues of my own). My husband and I have been married for 5 years and have two wonderful kids ages 2 and 4. We go to her from time to time for "maintanence" when things are getting tough. Good luck.

I've gotten great help from JFS. It stands for jewish family services, but you need not be jewish. I'm not sure of their W LA number but you can call ###-###-#### for info. They also work on a sliding scale.

I am a psychotherapist and I do love doing couples work, but currently I am booked up. I would love to answer any general questions you might have, but also, here are a couple great referrals:
Stephanie Book Koehler ###-###-####
Lee Ann Teaney ###-###-####

They both practice just west of Bundy in Santa Monica, as close as you can get to WLA and still be in Santa Monica.
