hi everyone...
we've been tryin for baby#2 since dec 2009 and got pregnant but then lost it at 3 weeks on june 24, 2010.
now we're doing a round of clomid, hcg injections and iui.
the thing is i also have a low thyroid and saw an endocrinologist and she put me on synthroid 50mg and i've been takin it since 7/31/10. my thyroid level was 0.173 on 7/30. my question is, how long will it take for my thyroid level to get to normal and sustain a pregnancy?? my endocrinologist said she wants to see me in 2 months whether or not i get pregnant. she actually said "if you don't get pregnant, don't worry just keep tryin and i'll see you in 2 months." so i guess she was tryin to say don't bother callin me to raise your dose. how about prometrium? i heard it's used when your treying to conceive. i plan on askin my fertility doc about it.
anybody else dealing with this issue? or have a sucessful outcome??
NOTE: NOT INTERESTED IN HOLISTIC MEDICINE OR NUTRITIONISTS

If you have a wellness doctor in your area you may want to see them. If your Iodine is low it will mess up and cause issues with your thyroid and being about to carry a child. I had a M/C in July-09, I am sorry you had one. I pray that you get the baby you seek soon.

I have never experienced the drugs you are talking about but here is my experience with low thyroid. My husband and I started trying to conceive in March 2009. In June my step dad passed away so we were very busy dealing with that and taking care of my mom so we were trying but not really thinking about conceiving. (since a lot of people say that when you try too hard it takes longer) In March 2010 I started bleeding and after 2 weeks of bleeding I called and went into the doctor. He didnt say much but that irregular periods are normal in some women. (Never been irregular my entire life) He said that since we had been trying for so long that he wanted to do blood tests to check my hormone levels. The test came back that my thyroid was low. So he started me on Levothyroxine .50. Still after 2 weeks more of bleeding I called them back and they said that they dont deal with thyroid problems and I have to see my primary. I went to my primary and she told me that my thyroid wasnt off that much and since I was having heart palpatations she dropped the dose I was on to .25. Right after that I stopped bleeding. (Thank goodness) :) In May we became pregnant and misscarried at 6 weeks. We started trying right away and became pregnant again right away. We are now at 8 almost 9 weeks. We had a ultrasound at 7 weeks and got to see the heart beating. I am still nervous that something could happen and we can lose this one too but I am hopeful that my levels are ok and everything will be fine. My OBGYN has checked my thyroid and will continue to check it since pregnancy can cause it to fluctuate.

I just wanted to give you hope that it is possible to conceivce with low thyroid and I would say just keep trying. At least you get to spend that quality time with your husband. Try to make it fun and more about you 2 instead of making it about making a baby! :) Good luck and I hope you are successful in conceiving soon!

It will take three months for your thyroid to level out to normal. And once you get preggers it won't level out at all..while pregnant I increased my dose three times....i went from .75mg to 1.74mg over the course of the pregnancy. once i delivered i went to 1.00mg and had to increase to 1.25mg which is where i've been for the past 2 years. however, if you are only on 50mg your not very low..so it may take less time to level out...

M., I do not have personal experience with the drugs you are mentioning as I believe in education not medication, however, I have worked with a few clients who came to me when they were trying to conceive. I am a family nutritional coach and women come to me when they don't want to put any or more drugs into their body. They know that they are trying to bring a new life into this world and filling their body, (their babies first home with meds and other toxins) is not the route they want to take.

Heather came to me when her daughter was 11 years old. She still desperately wanted another baby, they had been trying for 8 years. Her son Jake just turned 2.
Julie already had 4 kids, she wanted number 5. Her doctor told her she “really shouldn’t”. He didn’t recommend it as it would be too h*** o* her body. She chose to come to me, feed her body, strengthen it and 3 years later, 2 more kids. Everyone is healthy and vibrant and most importantly, very happy.

I work with women who want to clean up their bodies so that the babies have someplace nice to land then learn how to feed for themselves adn their babies for optimal health and wellness. If you would like to have that conversation, I am open to helping you.

It makes sense to get your indocrine system balanced to get pregnant and be healthy to sustain both you and your baby. Your bodies response to the synthroid should take only a couple of weeks or less. Synthroid is a synthetic replacement for the T-3 hormone. You might consider looking into bio-identicle hormones for your endocrine system, including the progesterone if you choose to go that direction.
