I'm looking into preschool for my daughter and find it to be a challenge.
She is very smart and says she wants to go to school. I'm in Southern California and would like any feed back from others in the same situation. I feel the places I am looking into are costly and I am concerned about there quality.
I've called local schools for recommendations but they will not share that info.
I'm currently looking for a flexable parttime learning environment for my daughter.
Hi, S., My son is in a free preschool. 3 days a week 9:30 -12 Great class and teacher. She is a mom of 6. This is through the Adult Continuing ED. They are located throught San Diego. Every community has preschools in it, so I'm not sure where in SoCal you're located, but I do know that there are several really great local preschools in the San Diego region. With preschools, there is no 'one-size-fits-all' solution. Your child and you have to go to schools, talk to teachers and administrators and find out what works for you both. Location is also key. We spent a great deal of time looking for a school as our nanny was moving and we had no choice but to find a place to take our daughter. After visiting countless places, we found one in our own neighborhood, less than a mile from our house, that is an absolutely amazing place. They are three facilities thru/out San Diego county, and are very 'education' oriented, though thru play techniques. Our daughter has changed immensely for the positive by attending this school, and has learned a great deal. We are exceptionally pleased with our school, but have talked to others who have not been pleased. So, again, what works for one family may not work for another. It's all in the chemistry between you/your child and the school, and what they offer that 'speaks to you'.

I see you are in Chula Vista. I would get a hold of "Family" magazine(free mag at places like Trader Joes, on school campuses, grocery stores, pediatrician offices) and search for some preschools in your area, also listed in yellow pages and online frequently. Put together a list of questions important to you and interview them over the phone; then when you have your selection narrowed, request an onsite visit/tour. If you go for a developmentally appropriate semi-academic oriented program, you may want to look into Montessori preschools.
One word of advice: beware of programs that do not have an open door policy, meaning you can drop by anytime when your daughter is there. Also, you can check w/ San Diego County Childcare licensing to check their history of any complaints, it is in Mission Valley. Good luck!
