Looking for Tips on Potty-training

My son, Aiden, turned 2 in January. I have 2 other boys that are 11 and 6 1/2 and they potty-trained at 2 1/2 but, I can't remember what worked best for them. My husband says we would just let them run around the house, without a pamper on and if they had an accident, we'd show them to the potty.
Anyone else, out there, have any successful tips on potty-training?
I'd appreciate any advice. Thank you.

I've been a child care provider for 20+ years, have raised two daughters to adulthood and have four wonderful grandchildren. So, I've had lots of potty training experience : ).

A lot of people use the system you suggested...no pampers. Also, things will be different if you can get the two older boys to take the youngest one to the bathroom with them when they go. It works well in my daycare. An older child helps set the example.

The main thing is to be encouraging. Once you start it...don't stop. Be consistent. You can even use pull-ups at naptime, bedtime, and on trips in the car...but ONLY then...until the child begins to show signs of control.

I take a colored index card each day and at the top title it *Lauren's Potty Report*. Each day, it's a different color. I tape this in a special place out of the trainee's reach, LOL! Then each successful potty time they get to pick out a sticker to put on their report. Each and every success. A large colored star sticker represents the *dirty* deeds. The kids love it. It works well. One summer I had five 2 year olds to potty train. Our entire summer was devoted to potty talk, LOL!

Just an idea that makes things fun. Best thing about spring and summer is being able to let them wear less/no clothes.

Good luck and God Bless. Here's to happy training! : )

J. my son is turning 3 on Sunday and we just mastered the whole potty training thing. We almost had it last summer and then we moved and he had a new daycare provider. It took him just a while to adjust and get comfortable again. My first suggestion is getting rid of the diapers and start with pullups and underware.

My son loves spongebob and scooby doo. We went shopping and he picked out his very own underware. Then we encouraged him not to pee on spongebob and scooby. This really seemed to work because if he did then he had to walk around in a pullup and not is his wonderful underware. We made such a huge deal with him wearing big boy undies.

Also - I don't know how open your husband is and I don't want anyone to think that we are weird but every now and then my son would wonder into the restroom with my husband and they would have little conversations with how and what the big boys do. Everytime he came out of there he went potty himself.

As for aiming in the potty I wouldn't recommend spounges so you don't clog up the plumbing of septic tank but cheerios work extremely well.

I hope this helps and good luck!!!!!!!

Hello!
I don't have any boys at all well possibly I'm expecting right now. Anyway, I do have friends with boys and they were pretty creative with potty training. One lived out in the country so it was very private outside, anyway she let her son go on the back porch and go potty in a coffee can. for the noise affect. Another would buy flushable sponge like dinosaurs (or whatever)and tell her son to aim for them in the potty. Both kind of silly but worked. I have daughters so thats the best I have. ( :

Hi J.. I have 2 daughters and I know you might not have a lot of time but the way I potty trained my girls is by monitoring about what time they go to the bathroom everyday. For instance after you feed him how long does it take to digest? Take him to the potty the same time everyday and then periodically throughout so that he can get used to being on it. While he's on it bring a toy or sing to play with him. When he does potty give him plenty of praise. But most importantly ask him does he need to go potty so that he knows to tell you when he gets used to hearing it. Now you will have a couple false potty alarms but he will go at least once lol. So I hope this helps.

Well, I don't have boys. But, a friend of mine (now in her 60's) had all boys and said when they were toddlers she potty trained them by pretty-much camping out in the backyard during warm weather and kept the potty outside. She said it worked for her.

I agree with hubby...I have always just let mine run around naked and they get the hang of potty training in no time..never have streesed about potty training at all..I really think that is the key..when they are ready..they are ready:) Good luck!
