Hi Ladies,
I just found out that I am no longer eligible for health insurance at my company because I am a part time employee. I am 21 weeks pregnant and unfortunately will no longer be able to use my OB in Sarasota because he does not take the health insurance from my husbands company. Does anyone know of an excellent OB in Bradenton? I am very nervous about switching in the middle of my pregnancy and would like to get some recommendations from those of you that have a good OB.

Thanks!! J.

J., I don't know of any OB's in Bradenton, I have been in Sarasota for the last 10 years. I have an excellent OB. Dr. Dorothy Izmirilian. She dilivered my youngest son, he is now 4 years old. She is wonderful. She really cares about her patients and takes the time to see them if they are concerned about even the smallest thing, even if she is busy. Her office is inSarasota on Bee Rigde Rd. I would recamend giving her a call if she is not too far away from where you are.

I also used Dr. Mudafort for two of my babies and he was great. Dr. Surrattanant is good to, (I think she is still delivering) and there is a new OB that a few of my friends are going to now (I am out of the loop now that I am done having babies) Dr. Sudbury on Riverside. Everyone that has seen him has loved him. Unfortunatly in Bradenton we are very limited to dr's that still deliver babies. Good luck and Congrats.

Hi J.

I had a great OB. Dr Jorge Alverez at Lakewood Ranch Womens centre. I had my little girl there last July and i have no complaints about the service i recieved. They have agreat team of doctors. Every visit was a pleasant one. The Maternity ward is just wonderful. I will definately go back there when me and my husband have another baby.
Congrats to you.

I went to Dr Jorge Alvarez and Jennifer McCullen at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. It's a group practice, and everyone there was wonderful. I just had my first child at Lakewood Ranch Med Center (one month ago), and it was a GREAT experience. I originally went there b/c Sarasota Memorial wouldn't take my insurance, but I ended up being thrilled. The doctors and nurses were amazing, and so was the facility. Very personal and caring. I toured Sarasota Memorial as a comparison, and I was much happier with Lakewood Ranch. (For example, they keep the baby with you in your room the whole time. Everyone gets their own room... etc) The number for Alvarez and McCullen is ###-###-####.

Hi J.,

Both Matta and Lemay are good and I hear that though Dr Sudbury and Swanson are fairly new, they are also recommended. I don't prefer Drs Alvarez and Mccullen, though I've heard he's good in an emergency situation. Those are the only 3 I would refer in Bradenton. Good luck with your new baby.

Hey J.,
I LOVED Matta and LeMay. They both compliment each other and the nurses are great too. Everyone I worked with, as well as my sisters, actually, everyone I know that has had a baby recently have gone to them. They are actually close to you, right next door to MMH.

I also haven't heard the greatest things about Alvarez, but I don't know about any others

I am a high risk pregnancy and I love my MFM's in St. Pete. After I had my son in 05, they recommended Dr. LeMay in Bradenton but I never actually met with them. I am expecting again, high risk again, and back with my original MFM.

My o5 pregnancy started out with Alvarez and McCullen at Lakewood Ranch. I was not impressed with them. Very friendly, but Lakewood Ranch hosp is not equipped to handle any sort of emergency. Every time I was admitted into the hosptal I was sent out to a different one. If your baby is born under 36 weeks for some reason at Lakewood Ranch, the baby will be sent to a different hospital. In addition to that, the last time I saw McCullen, I was at Lakewood Ranch overnight at 34 weeks for contractions. They released me in the morning and I asked her when I could know when to come back. Her response was, "Come back when you are dialated to 5." He was my 3rd child, and I don't know how to determine if I am dialated to 5. Also, I have a history of short labors. I left the practice after that experience. My son was born at 37 weeks in St. Pete with Dr. Montenegro's group and I was in labor for 2.5 hours.

Good Luck!
