my daughter is 5 months old, exclusively breastfed, only had a bottle once. i want to introduce her to a training cup. which ones have other parents used? i've looked at the advent one with the soft spout and the similiar one from playtex, "my first sippy cup" or something like that. is a sippy cup type a good place to start? both had two handles and were brightly colored so that seemed good to me.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I got a two handled Nuby Soft Spout sippy type cup and she took right away to it, once she figured out how to tip it up which took almost no time, and my mom got a Gerber cup for her house which she also likes..I'll wait till she's a little older to do the straw cups...thanks everybody.

My son's first sippy cup was by Gerber. It had two handles for easy holding. We also received a free cup from juicey juice for signing up on the website. He has now moved on to a sippy cup with a straw. They grow so fast.

My daughter used the Gerber cups with the double handles - I tried the soft spout ones but found they leaked a lot... good luck!!!

My son was exclusively breastfed and he took to the Gerber cup right away...well without the white no spill thing first until he got how to suck harder with it in...he's almost a year and still loves that cup.

I have not used the avent training cups but researched them last night and they look impressive. I am pleased with the line that I have thus far, meaning bottles, warmer sterilizer etc.

I actually started my daughter around 6 months with a cup that had a straw attached. She took to that much quicker than the sippy cup. She dind't realize she had to tip the cup back...now at 15 months I can take her anywhere and order her a drink as long as she has a straw.

Good Luck!

We started our oldest daughter on Nuby cups at about 9 months and she took to them right away. Our younges one got a hold of one recently. She's only 5 months, going on 6. She knew hot to use it which impressed me. Nuby cups have been our choice, but I don't like how quickly they leak.

My son is 6 months I breastfed him exclusively till two weeks ago I got the flu and had to stop. Switching to the bottle was not that hard and I have gotten him used drinking juice and water out of a sippy cup I use the Nubby with the soft spout it doesnt have the handles but I find he holds it better than the bottle and I have'nt found that it leaks or anything.

honestly.. what I did was buy a nuby straw cup (not playtex straw cups) sippy cups (not the take and toss ones.. they are crappy)get 1 of all sorts of cups and try them all. It took a while for my daughter to drink out of a cup, holding it up to drink if it was a sippy was hard, I would have to hold it up. The straw cups are nice, but have a better chance to leak. I kept formula in a bottle, then it was milk. But milk was in the bottle, no juice in a bottle. Juice and water was in cups. My daughter to this day has never went to bed with an bottle or cup. Never let it start, no matter how tired you are. You can take him out of the crib and feed him. But as a husband who is a dentist, oral hygene is a must. for us and her!! I got lotsa advice all ya habe to do is ask :)

When my son was 6 mos old he kept grabbing at our cups so I bought him his own. I bought the soft spout ones because I thought the transition would be easier. Mostly the Gerber ones. He still drinks from them at 2.5 yrs. I also breastfed him until he was 9 mos old. It wasn't exclusive though, I went back to work when he was 12 wks old. If she is starting to show interest then get one. She won't know what to do at first. She won't know how to suck to get the milk/juice out. You may need to remove the anti-spill until she gets it.

I started my daughter on a sippy at 6 months- (she is now 15 months) we bought her a package by Gerber that had 2 cups- one with handles and one without. She had no problem with the transition from bottle to cup. She still uses the cups all the time, although she prefers the ones with Dora the Explorer on them. :) I also find that the Nuby brand that's like 97 cents a cup at Wal-Mart work really well too. (and it works well with my budget! :p)
