Looking for a Really Good Endocrinologist

I am in need of an Endocrinologist that can work along side my OB to monitor my thyroid during pregnancy. I am about 12 wks along and so tired that I cannot even function. I have upped the dosage on my Armour thyroid, but I don't think it is doing the trick. I have a feeling I need to try something new. Does anyone know of an Endocrinologist that really takes the time to look into lab work other than just TSH? Someone who is open minded to herbal/alternative therapies as well? Or just one that was really able to help? I am so tired of doctors with no answers, or answers that provide zero results.
Thank you,
M.

So What Happened?

I had a few recommendations for TX Diabetes & Endocrinology, so I called them. Dr. Causaban had a long wait for new patients, so they got me into see Dr. Shaw at their RR office. She was very nice, and she said she wanted to switch me from Armour to Synthroid (Levothyroxine sodium) at a low dose - 12 mg. I just started today, so of course I cannot see a difference yet. But I am nervous about switching. I have heard not so great things about Synthroid, but Dr. Shaw assured me it was the best for pregnancy. If I don't improve, I am going to be really discouraged. Something has got to help. I cannot imagine taking care of a newborn and being this tired!

Melissa,
My thyroid really went crazy during pregnancy as well - I had to really up my dose of hormone. It may be that Armour is not enough and you need to add a synthetic hormone, just for the time being. I use Dr. Blevins at Texas Diabetes http://www.texasdiabetes.com/ and I like him.

Good luck, and Congratulations!

Melissa,
I see Dr. Ron Manzanero for my thyroid problem. He is not an Endocrinologist, but he sees a lot of patients with endocrinology issues. I see him usually once a year, but that visit is very thorough (usually around an hour). He checks my T3 & T4 levels (not just the TSH). While I was pregnant, I had a standing workorder for bloodwork every 6 weeks to make sure I was getting enough Armour. Dr. Manzanero works with both conventional and alternative therapies, using an integrative approach. Check out his website www.aimmd.com/index.php

Good luck!
