Do you pee in the ocean... or lake, pond, river, or even the pool! ?

We were at the beach this last week and after the 50th time of the kids going "I have to pee" I had enough. "Just go pee in the ocean" I tell them. Their response "We can't do that!". So I took them out into the ocean and all 3 of us peed at the same time. I felt like a kid again where I grew up at Huntington Beach, CA. I laughed and giggled b/c I haven't peed anywhere but a bathroom in many many many years. My kids thought it was awesome too.

So, my question is... and lets see how many will answer honestly, hehehe.... Do you?

What can I do next?

PS... I hope I haven't grossed you guys out too bad by admitting I did this, hehe. And no.. we do not pee in pools either, just threw the option out there to see if anyone does. I have a SIL who does and we all get soooo grossed out by it. She thinks it is hilarious. Not to us!

Riley.. No. I went to Fairmont Private School. My grandma drove me everyday with her station wagon - sooo embarrasing at the time. lol.

An open body of water is fair game...pools are kinda gross to do it in. We spend a lot of time in the ocean or in the bayou so there is NO WAY I'm hauling 3 kids back up to a bathroom everytime one of them needs to go pee.
Funny thing: back in the day when my life revolved around scuba diving we used to say there were 2 types of people.
1) The ones who pee in their wetsuit &
2) The ones who lie about peeing in their wetsuit!
Have a great day!!

i do. my kids do, my SIL and BIL and my whole family does. In the ocean. not pools. I mean for heavens sake if you think about it, where do ocean liners and cruise ships, dump there stuff? and all the animals that go in there? so my little peepee doesn't effect anything.

The rest of the sea/lake creatures pee and poop in the water and so do I (um, not poop).
Pools, I have to admit I pee'd in them as a kid, I'm sure most of us did, who wants to get out and go pee when you are having fun. I dont do it as an adult tho.

Yep! All but the pool! My oldest son cracked me up ladt year at age 4 when I finally got it through to him to just pee in the ocean -he went out and completely dropped his suit! It then took forever to explain why it was okay to pee through your bathing suit in the ocean... Just remember, urine is the most sterile substance produced by the body!

Heck yes! Depends on which lake though, Lake of the Ozarks you cant pee in because you will get ecoli of the genitals, LOL, my friend did! Sick!

But when we are out on the boat where else do you pee? A bucket? No thanks.

But funny story, we were in Florida vacationing, we had rented a beach house with a pool and my sisters and I were down in the pool we were having several cocktails and I felt like I was too drunk to go upstairs in the bathroom so I peed in the pool. They were completely freaked out. Geez, I thought we were in the nest. The rest of the vacation they wouldnt let me live in down. When my husband and I went out shopping I actually fond a shirt that said "I pee in pools" I bought it and wore it back to the house. Still have it. It was hilarious!

Like most of the responses I've read, yes to the ocean & I suppose yes to a lake or river, though I don't have ocassion to visit those very often, but no to pools.

Funny story--when my son was about 4 years old we were at the beach & he tells me he has to pee. I said, "Just go in the water, baby, there's no bathrooms on this beach" & the next thing I know he standing in the water up to his ankles with his little dinger hanging out peeing away! LOL! I just took for granted he knew he had to go into the water up to his waist!

Oh I grew up on the coast and always peed in the ocean, why the hell not? :) It's way more comfortable (and IMO cleaner to the public beach bathroom). I haven't had many oppurtunities to pee in lakes and rivers, but I would totally pee in them if I needed to. I never, and would never teach my kids to pee in a pool! Though I do remember peeing in pools as a young kid, I always knew I shouldn't :)

People don't pee in the ocean??
We just came back from vacation, and the kids thought it was so cool that they could pee there! lol
Trust me, pee is nowhere near the grossest thing in that water. Same goes for lakes.
Now pools, that's a whole different story. Especially since after seeing the movie Grown Ups I'd be terrified the water would turn blue!

That's funny. I had the same thing happen 4th of July. we were at a very crowded lake and the bathrooms had a long line, they were far away and they were very very disgusting. SO, after the 3rd time walking all the way across the beach and standing in long stinky bathroom lines to go to the dirty bathroom I remember thinking, dang, why did I do such a good job with yall! I started justiying in my head.....well, fish pee in the lake, why can't my kids. I really wanted to tell them to go in the lake, but it was so crowded that I couldn't bring myself to go through with it. I also didn't want to have my kids tell everybody they ran into for the next month - mommy let me pee in the lake! cuz you know they would!

Natural body of water? Yep, I do. To me, that water is flowing and moving around, and there are many other things in it that are equally as gross, if you want to look at it that way.

Pools? No. That water is contained and not flowing anywhere. Plus, it's just disrepectful.

Everyone from my husband's work comes to go floating in the river near our house. I'm in the middle of potty training and was reminding my son to NOT POOP in the river. "Only pee?" he asked. The ladies from work were like "Yes, only pee. Pee all you want in the river." When floating/swimming together, we'd joke about how the water got warm all of a sudden. "WHO PEED?" we'd ask and all laugh.

So yes, we pee in the river/ocean. I rarely pee in the pool. Hey you wanted honesty! Rarely means RARELY. I was at my sons swim class for two weeks this summer. No peeing. 4th of July no peeing. I don't think I've been in a swimming pool where I did pee in quite a few years.

Yes to all except the pool. The other bodies of water are urinated (and pooped) in by other animals so if you are okay swimming in it then I do not believe it is gross to pee in it. Fun post this morning :)

I am a summer pool member and while ADULTS might not pee in the pool - i have spent many hours watching kids play and they NEVER get out to pee - they have to be doing it somewhere! LOL

My hubby and I always assume there is pee in any pool - we joke about it actually - "my legs are really itchy - must be extra pee in the water today" haha and yesterday at our gym they were draining hte kid pool and we both laughed and said someone probably pooped in there - haha - i guess we're just gross but whatever...kids thought it was funny too. :-)

Ew, you peed in our ocean ;) LOL, just kidding! I am going to have to say that I will USUALLY hold it, but would give in if I did too many potty trips! My kids are the same way, they don't like to pee in the water. We have a pool and they are constantly making potty trips. When I was a kid, I was too busy having fun to go to the bathroom and just peed in the water.

LOL!!!!!!! Fun question. I didn't, as an adult, for a veryyy long time... until my husband taught the kids to pee in the water because kid bathing suits are a pain in the butt! We NEVER pee in the pool(s) we go to, but at the river, yes, because it's always so full of boaters, canoers, and kayakers, that if you didn't go in the water, you'd be flashing half of Richmond. As far as the ocean, the only time I can remember recently having been there and peeing in the ocean was in Ocean City, MD; we had taken our surfboards out to the sand bar, and suddenly, my friends and I were surrounded by a swarm of stingrays. They're very docile, but we were sitting out there on our boards (of course the waves were gone D'OH!) and didn't want to put our feet down for fear of stepping on a stingray... so yep, just sat there on my board and peed. THAT was totally gross because I was still sitting in it, EW! As an adult, I almost always use a restroom when one's available... but there are definately exceptions to that rule ;)

I pee in oceans and rivers. Never pools. I am so proud of all my children that they always (as far as i know) get out of the pool to go pee. I laughed when I read Sunnydays comment about scuba divers - so true! Once I just surfaced from a dive and we were way out at sea, my buddy was a poor Frenchman who just had to poo. He couldn't hold it any longer so I just had to swim away from him while he struggled with his gear and wetsuit and then just let loose. Fancy being remembered for that!

sorry but gross!!!!
I can understand an ocean or lake when your on a boat or no bathroom around. But not a river or pool. We were at a river over 4th of july weekend, where my little kids 4 and 6 were swimming in it, (my oldest is trying to learn to go underwater and gets water in his mouth at times). when a mom was calling her kid over to pee in the river(right where they were playing). It absolutely drove me crazy! NOOOO. the kid wasn't asking to go, there was a port a john and grassy areas she could of gone in, but the mom kept insisting she come into the river to pee. I swear I almost went off, I don't want my kid drinking her pee, and to do it intentionally when everyone is playing, gross! She could of even gone in the lake just down the way, where it wasn't crowded.

so that is my 2cents

Yes, yes and yes! And as you stated, it was a looooong time ago. Growing up on the lake, when you boat out 20 min, there is just no easy way to get back to the dock to a restroom. And yes, today, if there is no jet ski to take me back in I would probably do it again;)

But in the ocean, I suppose it's not inappropriate. After all the toilets on boats do get flushed into the ocean.

I'd rather use a restroom. I live near a river and a lake and would really rather folks not use them as a toliet. I usually am near enough to the restroom at the ocean to make the trip. I would in an emergency I guess but NEVER in a pool or pond.

My husband worked at a wastewater plant for many years. The stuff in people's "waste" is pretty gross.
