I'm looking for a great cake for my daughter's b-day party. I'd prefer to support a local business rather than a store chain. Any ideas are appreciated.
Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the great advice. Susie G's was an early favorite so I decided to give them at try. Per my request, Susie made my cake into a shape of a frog to match the birthday invitations and she surpassed my expectations with the design! Better yet, the cake tasted as good as it looked. (We went with the white cake.) It was a bit pricey, but I have no regret spending a little more for a special ocassion. Thanks again!

Hi. We use Wedding Wonderland also for cakes. They taste great and are very reasonably priced. 449 Dunn Road, Florissant, MO 63031 (in the same plaza as Yacovelli's). ###-###-####.

Don't know where you are located, but I am in the OFallon, MO area and I agree with a couple of the others. Susie G's is the best. I get all my birthday cakes from them, they look gorgeous and taste great!

I would highly recommend "The Cakery Bakery" in Dogtown - ###-###-####. They are very creative & equally delicious. Their website is www.thecakerybakery.net. The website has a great portfolio/gallery of their work, but it looks as though it's "Under construction" at the moment. I've used them several times, and everyone always raves about their buttercream frosting and cute designs.

I hope that helps. Enjoy!

My vote is for Lubeley's. A family owned business that will work with you for any design that you might want and their cakes taste great!!! I always get compliments about their cakes and cookies.

mcarthurs bakery is south county (3055 lemay ferry ###-###-####) is the best place on the planet. my sons last bday i had a cake ordered from someone else and the day before they canceled my order because i wanted a picture from a napkin. they said it was a copyright infringement and wouldnt do it even if the pic was altered a little. my friend recommended mcarthurs and they had a cake ready to go right on time. it was beautiful. they totally understood my time crunch and that i was really freaking out. they were absolutely wonderful and i will never get a cake from anywhere else.

I'm not sure if you're up to making a 1st birthday cake, but for my 3 boys we did a train cake on their first birthday. Very easy to make-I simply baked the cake in mini loaf pans, then decorated with icing and different kinds of candy. I know trains are typically for boys, but I bet you could ice it with pinks and purples and it would turn out really cute. I had more positive comments on the cake that day. All the kids and grandparents loved it!

Its a bit of a hall from St. Charles, but a place called Sweet Encores on Hampton ###-###-#### has amazing and delicious cakes. The cakes are beautiful works of art and they taste amazing too. Custom designed cakes for all occasions. Lots of yummy flavors can be used between layers. The icing is just the perfect sweetness and not too heavy. I have photo of a wedding cake they did on my myspace page, if you get a chanc eot view the picture, keep in mind that the entire cake is edible! http://www.myspace.com/Jenniferthephotographer

I've heard about a confectioner/baking co. in Dogtown (it was even featured on the Food Network I think) that's
supposedly wonderful. I can't remember the name, but maybe you could do a search for Dogtown bakeries? It might have "sweet" in the name, I can't remember. Good luck!
