So What Happened?

I was afraid to use vinegar in the past but I couldn't stand the cat smell any more (the grandchildren stayed overnight and their clothes in the bag still had the odor) so I tried it. It was too late at night to try to get anything else and always have white vinegar on hand. After the wash cycle I couldn't smell it and am hoping I won't after they are dry. I found my laundry guide that came with my washer and we had already tried what they said which hadn't worked. It is usually much easier and quicker and more accurate to get the answers from this site than searching the web. Thanks for the help.

There is an enzyme cleaner which can be found with the carpet cleaners in most grocery stores or Walmart...wash with that and if you cant find it wash with white vinegar.

I have always had luck by addind white vinegar to my load of laundry to remove smells. While I haven't ever had the need to try in for cat pee, it seems to work for other odors. I just do my laundry like usual, and pour 1/2-1 cup of vinegar into the tub after it has filled. Good luck :)

Wash them again normal but add a cup of white vinegar. It will completely take the smell out.

Hi! I know I'm a little slow here, but I've had this problem. If the the vinegar doesn't work, try Nature's Miracle. You can get it at any pet store. I've used this several times when my cats have had accidents.

With a shirt, I would soak the stain (the whole shirt if you don't know anymore where the spot is) for 24 hours in a knotted plastic bag. Any colorless grocery bag will do. It's an enzyme cleaner, so it's important not to let the solution dry too fast, or the enzymes won't have time to work.

Good luck:)

OUT can be found in spray bottle or in a larger refill bottle at Wal-mart in the pet aisle. Pour 1 cup of it into your washer and let it soak a couple hours then wash as normal. I find it helps to use liquid fabric softner instead of dryer sheets on these loads of clothes. I have not had OUT discolor any of my clothes or towels and use it regularly since we have a naughty puppy!
Another option would be to use Odo-Ban, but it can be almost impossible to find. With Odo-Ban I use about 1 cup, soak overnight and then launder as usual.
Hope this helps!

hi! i'd DEFINITELY use Nature's Miracle on it (found at Pet stores). i actually even believe it's guaranteed (money-back), if i remember correctly- as long as it's used according to directions. anyway-- my hubby is a professional carpet/upholstery cleaner and he uses it on that and our clothes for all that kind of stuff. let me know if u have any other questions about it.

The ONLY thing I have found is washing the clothing in the washer like regular, add your soap too, but also add Animal Carpet Cleaner...I believe Hoover makes it but I buy the Walmart brand. I pour a LOT in there! Good luck!

My husband's awful cat did the same to his coat. The only thing that worked was cheap Purex powder detergent. It is like $3.00 at Walmart. It has renuzit(?) or some such in it. I was amazed but it really did work. You can't smell it at all and the coat is back to the way it was before.

By far the best product for cat urine is called Enzyme T from Tesch Chemical in Menasha. I recently started working for them, and this is the number one best seller for urine/blood/any organic stain. We can ship it to your house, even though you have to pay shipping. It is a chemical free product that has enzymes that literally "digest" the odor and stain (safe to use anywhere you can use water so it's safe for kids and pets). Any questions, feel free to email me: ____@____.com luck!

Try pouring amonia in with the clothes and soap.

Amonia...add that to your laundry detergent and the smell will come right out after a wash! My mom taught me this while I was potty training my son and it really works.

I had a similar problem but with a rug. You can go to your local pet store. They have several products that can be used to remove the odor. I used a product called Anti Icky Poo.

I'm a grandmother with 2 cats and one of them will pee on clothes only if they are left on the floor. I've had this problem and know of other people who have had this problem with cats over the years. The good thing is that this has made me a better housekeeper. :)

When I do have to wash an item/items with cat pee on them, I put the items alone (never with other clothes that haven't been peed on) in the washer with just a little Tide and let the items have a complete wash/rinse cycle. This gets most of the urine out.

Then I wash the items again using the correct amount of detergent for the size of load (small, medium, large). I add liquid Downy Fabric Softener to the wash cycle, and add liquid Clorox Bleach to the wash cycle (1 cup for large loads).

Bleach is used for many purposes as a disinfectant. It kills bacteria which causes the urine smell.

I use 1 cup (for large loads) of regular Clorox Bleach to white/light colored clothes with cat pee, or use Color Safe Bleach for colored clothes.

Try washing them with regular detergent with rubbing alcohol added. Vinegar in the rinse water also helps. If that doesn't work Mr Clean has an all purpose cleaner that has Frebreze in it, it helps to get rid of cat urine smell.
