Lakeside, Kid Friendly Vacation Within Driving Distance of Fort Worth?

Hi Gang,

The title says it all. Hubby loves the water, but I'm thinking a cruise is beyond our means for a while. Do you know of any lake vacations that are within driving distance?

Flying 3 people eats a lot of $ from a vacation so I'd like to avoid it (unless Southwest gets us there cheap :)

Thanks

What can I do next?

Southwest has a big sale on right now. I just book my hubby's Dec-Feb trips for $96 round trip. I think they were slightly higher to Harlingen.

As for driving, how about Possum Kingdom Lake? I've not been there but I've heard about it. I think there are some places in East Texas as well.

Good luck

Granbury is amazing! Its about two hours away. We love to stay at the Hilton its right on the lake, with an indoor pool. The beach access is right next to the hotel. Theres even a trolly that takes you around Granburys downtown. Plus, theres Glen Rose that has tons of family friendly things to do thats very close to Granbury.

We went to Lake Ouachita in Arkansas last summer and it was great. Drive is about 5 hours from Ft. Worth. Lake was empty, even in the middle of the summer, and it was beautiful.

Hi P., I've been to Beavers Bend in Oklahoma and it's beautiful, but now sure about how kid friendly it is. It's not far, just about 3 hours from McKinney. My husband and I've stayed in a cabin there several times. **Have you heard of Camp Jellystone? They're apparently in several locations and there is one close to you in Burleson. I'm not sure if they have a lake or not or if you and your husband would enjoy the place. I saw it advertised recently and really wish I'd know about it when my son was younger because he would've loved the place. There website is northtexasjellystone.com
Hope you find a place you and your family enjoy!
