Keeping Infant Safe in Crib

My son is pulling up. We lowered the crib mattress. He continues to pull up and plops himself onto the mattress like a game. He has hit his head, not hard but I am afraid he will hurt his head or knock out his 2 new baby teeth. We tried putting blankets around the crib to "pad" it. What else can we do?

What can I do next?

We put the bumper in. Once they can roll around, they are not likely to suffocate against them anymore.

This is normal behavior as he is practicing new skills. There's not much else you can do.

Quite honestly, continue to let him pull up then sit back down. He's practicing a skill that will be useful and as he practices more he'll learn how to stand up/sit down without the plopping and dropping.

How old is he? When my 1st born was 9 months she flipped out of her crib, we took it down. She was to little for a twin bed and they didn't have rails or toddler beds back then, so we put her matress on the floor. Make sure you also tell anyone who watches your child because if they put your child in a crib and he wakes up... that could spell trouble.

Don't worry about it too much - every kid learns that game and seems to love it. His head and teeth are stronger than you think.

N. as bad as this may sound, let him go. Just let him keep doing it, that is the only way he will learn. I have a son that is 17months and when he started doing it we just let him go. They learn very quickly!!

Get him a play pen they are much safer for such play as you describe. If he is pulling him self up he will be trying to walk and get into things soon.Be sure you have all of your cleaning products up high and outlets covered and out of reach of little hands.Kids are fast , faster than we are.

How old is he? It sounds like he is ready for a toddler bed.
You could also try using his pack 'n play for sleep.

Pulling up is a natural developmental milestone and I wouldn't worry too much. Kids are tougher than they seem and it's unlikely he'll hurt himself. A concern about the blankets, though. Did you mean in the crib or outside of it, because a bunch of blankets in the crib can be a suffocation hazard.
