It's a Boy and a Girl!

C.'s husband here, posting on her behalf. Twins Gabriel Luke and Lydia Eve were welcomed into the world today at 4:08pm and 4:16pm! Mama and babies are all three well, and sleeping peacefully at the moment. When I caught little Gabriel (unassisted home birth was a success), my heart just about burst in joy. Then a few minutes later when the eldest daughter and I caught Lydia, I was surprised to find that joy doubled! Who knew so much love could explode so quickly. I didn't realize twins would be twice the joy and love the moment I saw them!

Now we are TEN. My wife and I have been blessed by the Lord eight times now, and we thank Him for His eternal goodness. Still an even split; four boys, four girls!

C. wanted me to tell you all the good news and to ask: "What is your memory of the first time you saw your newborn?" She can't wait to read the memories you share.

What can I do next?

Congratulations!!!! Welcome to the world Luke & Lydia :)

My first thought was a bit goofy. "Wow. He's naked." But my brain does that. My first thought usually either needs to be summarily ignored, or shows a remarkable grasp of the obvious, and should generally be kept to myself.

Wonderful, and such beautiful names!!

With my son, there was a very high chance he could be born with health problems. It was a scheduled c-section, so there would be enough doctors and nicu staff there...just in case. When they pulled him out he really hollered! They cleaned him a bit and set him on me, and my husband and I cried with relief. He was so perfectly healthy and pink. It was like a miracle for us, really. Thanks, for bringing back the memories :)

Congrats to all of you!!!! Absolutely loved reading your post!

I also didn't get to hold either of my baby girls when they were first born (c-sections). I couldn't get over how unbelievably real it was with my first and just how beautiful she was. (We had tried for 6 years and I was in denial that I could actually be pregnant during the whole pregnancy...and she came 3 weeks early!).

With my second, I thought, "Wow. Another girl. I just knew it! It can't get any better than this!"

Best of luck to mama and the new babies (and of course to the rest of ya!).

My first time holding my daughter I was shaking so hard, I was afraid I was going to drop her, but my husband held her on my lap so I wouldn't I didn't want to let her go, she was so perfect and gorgeous and I felt like I'd been waiting my whole life to hold her. I spend the next few days not letting her out of my arms except to go to the bathroom, all of her checkups were in my arms and she slept with me until we went home. I just couldn't stand to be apart from her.

Congratulations! What wonderful news!

With my first child (who was a few weeks early, so she was skinny), I remember thinking she looked like a rubber chicken! (Isn't that awful? But that was honestly my first thought!) And then I thought, "But I will love her anyway, even if she looks like a purple rubber chicken!" Happily, she turned out to be a beautiful girl, and does not resemble a rubber chicken any longer.

Congrats again on your new bundles of joy!

OH wow! Congratulations to the ten of you! Did you not know you were having twins? (You said you were surprised).

My first time I saw my son -- I was so upset I didn't get to hold him! I had a CSection and was allowed to give him a kiss but not hold him. But when I first saw him it was just utter happiness. Don't know how to explain it. But I'm sure you all know what I mean. Simply said it just felt great that he was finally here.

My memories:
1st born....holding him on my chest before he was removed from the room to address issues with meconium inhalation. Yuck. We still tease him about it! Oh, didn't hold him again until day 3....boy, was that hard!

2nd child...emerg c-section, heart & lung defects. I held our angel briefly in the OR & then did not see/hold her again for another week. She was evac'd to the nearest Childrens Hospital. She had her daddy all to herself while I was in our podunk little local hospital. :)

3rd & last child....our miracle baby! Held him in delivery room, & he was returned to us within the hour. We were together from that point on...& we were joyous. He was the only baby to come home with us at the time of my release. About danged time!

Enjoy, rejoice.....:) & thanks for sharing!

My clearest memory is of my second, a VBAC. He was placed on my stomach immediately. My eyes were closed, but I remember so clearly reaching down and grabbing him and feeling his body wet and slick from being born. It was mind blowing, it affirmed that I had just GIVEN BIRTH for the first time. That sensation is imprinted in my hands.

My first was a c-section, and I do remember seeing his little face over the curtain, but those memories are all mixed up with drugs, fear, and confusion. My best memories of him are from later, when we were in the post-natal hospital room and everyone left us the @!#$ alone. The nurse kept getting annoyed with me because I kept unwrapping him. I wanted to look at him and touch every little toe, his little knees, his tiny armpits!! Every time a new nurse came in the room, she would wrap him up tight, and within 5 minutes I had him unwrapped. To this day he wiggles out of his blankets and sleeps spread-eagled!!

Congratulations on your newest 2 miracles!!

Yay!!! Congratulations!!! I wish you could post a pic here. So happy for you guys. Having a baby is so amazing...
My first baby, 7/26/06, was Chloe, I was 4 weeks early, water broke at home, had her vaginally in a hospital. I was in awe when I saw her, it was surreal, I didn't really realize I was a mother now. I can't articulate what my thoughts were - it was that wild for me.
Second daughter, 9/28/07, Kaitlyn. She was a c-section, I was so scared from the whole process, I just broke down into tears that everything had gone ok, and she and I were fine. (Irrational, but still, how I felt).
Third baby, my son Tyler, 4/19/11. Also a c-section, I burst into tears and just thought, he's perfect!!

Great post, so happy for you guys,

Congratulations! I am a mom to 5 including triplets.

24 years ago I had a son who was suppose to be a girl. When he came out they yelled, "It's a girl!", then a nurse told the doc to look again between those very fat those. "It's a BOY!" First I said, "Aw, Sarah!" Then I said, "Aw, Jason!" He was 9lbs 10ozs and all I cared about was it being over and happy to have my big fat baby. He looked just like me as a baby so it was a bit amazing.

16 years ago I had another son. I was shocked. Not just that I managed to push out yet another huge baby at 8lbs 11ozs (short and wide, like pushing out 2 heads) he looked nothing like me as my older son did! He looked just like his father but light skin and not much hair, just a bit of fuzz. So I found myself staring at him all the time because my husband was away in the military and looked like Dad.

7 years ago I gave birth to triplets! They were 2 months early. It was 2 boys and a girl, finally. They were so tiny! 3.10, 3.11 and 4.10. The first came out, a boy, sounding like a kitten cuz he was so small. The second, a girl, sounded even higher pitch because she was a girl. The third was a big bruiser so he sounded a bit more normal when he came out. I couldn't see them when they first came out as each baby had their own team of doctors and nurses. As they finally took them away to the NICU I got to see a glimpse of them. They had them in zip lock bags to keep their body temps up. First I saw little Jamison who looked like a little old man, lol. Looked like my side! Then saw big Jake who was naked. He had a bit of a time breathing but he looked like Dad! Then they said "Here's you daughter!" I said, "Uh oh!" I had boys for 17 years and that was the most foreign thing to hear that I had a daughter. She was so tiny and pettite. She looked like my grandmother with fuzzy light hair with a bit of red in it. I guess it was right to name her after my grandmother's 2 middle names. To this day it's odd sometimes to think I have a daughter, lol.

All 5 of my kids are so different from each other. I'm sure you are both enjoying the twin factor and how different all 8 of your children are from each other, and even how similar some are. Fun times ahead! Just remember to put the on a schedule and chart who eats, poops and pees so it's easier when you go to the doctor.

What a lovely announcement! Congratulations to you both!

I have many great memories, but I'll tell you the first one that popped into my head. I had been in bed since 24 weeks, and was so worried about him for so long. His heartrate dropped hard with each contraction, so we were worried about that, but all went well, though the labor took a long time! But when he came out, I looked at him and wondered how he could possibly be real, healthy and outside of me safely. Sounds a little unusual, perhaps, but when they told me his Apgar score, I was almost surprised that it was perfect, I had been so worried for so long!

Congratulations!

With my first (c-section) I thought "Is it out?" The first time I saw her she was already wrapped up like a burrito with a hat on so I only saw her tiny face from a distance and couldn't touch her. When they brought her to me several hours later I told her "It's you and me, kiddo." I had never been so in love.

With my second daughter (hbac) I was amazed at how she was so calm and wide eyed looking for me. My whole pregnancy I thought she was a boy and she looked exactly like my husband with dark hair and eyes and nothing like me. When I saw her for the first time I was in shock. I thought that if I'd had her at a hospital and had to pick her out in a nursery I'd have walked right past her. lol It was a feeling of Who is this, wonderful baby? It took me a bit to get to know her and I was thrilled.

When I saw my third for the first time I was still reeling from how fast the birth went. He had a cord wrapped and came out a bit purple. I immediately began encouraging him and massaging his chest. I was amazed watching the pink color begin under my fingers and spread throughout his body. He didn't cry so I asked my midwife to check for respiration. She checked and he was breathing just fine but calm as could be. He had a rough entrance into the world and his eyes were so swollen he could hardly open them. The most precious memory I have with him is sitting in the tub with him, giving him his first bath, checking him out, and starting nursing. It was so special that I grieved a bit that I didn't have that with my first two.

Thank you for sharing your announcement with us. I wish your family a blessed babymoon.

Congratulations!

When my son was born, he was held up facing away from me, so my first glimpse of him was his backside. My first thought was 'no butt. yep, He's a (our last name)!'

When my daughter was born, they said that she was 2 weeks early, even tho the day was MY original due date. When she appeared, she was 'clean' and wide eyed and beautiful. They barely had to clean her up at all. I knew that she was as ready to be here as I was.

My kids are spitting images of each other even tho there are years difference. Their 'first day pics' are identical except for the bow in my daughter's hair. I say that I had twins years apart.

CONGRATULATIONS x 2!!! God is Good, isn't He?

To answer your question, my son was delivered by emergency C-section (I had preeclampsia and induction was unsuccessful), I remember being shocked at how big and 'not newborn-ish' he looked, and that he was totally clean... I expected him to be bloody, and still cottage cheese (vernix) looking... but he was spotless! Looked like he had just had a bath! I know those are kind of silly things, and of course, I was overcome with joy at his birth and apparent good health... but I definitely remember those two things... his size, and his cleanliness!

God bless you, your family, and your precious new additions! Enjoy!!!

Glad to hear everyone is doing well!

Mine aren't very sentimental lol But I can tell you that as soon as each one was placed in my arms I knew that love multiplied! It was proven to see the love in both of my husbands ( my ex and my current) eyes and when each one of my kids held thier siblings! One of my greatest memories is when I had my daughter and my oldest held her for the first time the tears just ran down his face. It was to touching to see him so over come with joy that the tears just flowed out.

On to my thoughts...

#1 I thought wow, he looks just like his dad! I hope that changes! oops :) Thankfully it did and he looks just like me lol

#2 holy cow, that explains the heart burn... he had a TON of hair! His first hair cut was at a week old ( his hair was over half of his ears and touching the base of his neck)

#3 he had the cutest little pug nose!

#4 ok.. my mil won... he has red hair....

#5.. let me see that she is in fact a girl!! After 4 boys I wanted to see myself. Yes they were right, I had my little girl.

Congrats to your family!
