It could just be an eyelash or something or it could be a little infection. I would just watch it, if it starts gooping or something, take him to the dr. When my baby was only 9 days old his eye started running really bad. I took him in and they gave him this ointment and it was virtually gone the next day. I would say if in a day it looks the same or worse take him to get it checked. Take care!!

Wash your hands. Have someone help you by holding your baby. Gently pull down and up the eye lids and see if anything, such as a lash, is caught in his eye. And/or put a drop of OTC eye drops under the lower lid so that if something is there it will wash out.

The little bit of swelling could be caused by his rubbing the eye, thus irritating it. He may have had something in the eye, such as "sleep" or a lash which started the rubbing and now the eye is irritated and so he keeps on rubbing it.

I wouldn't be concerned about it. Even if it gets a bit gooey there isn't much that can done for it. You can call the advice nurse to be sure but in my experience eye irritations clear up by themselves. If the goop is green or yellow definitely do call the advice nurse. That would indicate an infection. The doctor may prescribe an anti-biotic cream. Depends on the doctor. Personally, I use antibiotics as seldom as I can so that I don't build up a tolerance.

Call the pediatric advice nurse. Never downplay eye issues. I have a degenerative eye condition in both eyes and have had surgery in the past. I've always been told to call the doctor if anything remotely seems wrong in the eye area. It's probably nothing -- could just be allergies -- but good to hear it from the medical professionals.
