You need to schedule every waking minute, but the schedule is not set in stone. The children will need time throughout the day where they can have free choice( to pick whatever they want to do). Also, educational videos, like Blue's Clues Shapes and Colors, or Sesame Street numbers and letters and by all means read to them. They like having the same stories read over and over, they pick their favorite and stick with it. Mostly 2-3 year olds like to play, have many musical instruments as well as riding toys, baby dolls, building blocks (large legos) etc. Four year olds like to color, draw, write, talk, and pretend play. Fake foods, pots and pans, dress up clothes, old Halloween costumes, etc. If I can help, let me know, I run a home daycare.

Get lots of out door toys, water play, sand boxes (with covers), play dough, music makers and games with songs. Maybe start working on hand eye cordnation, start teaching the kids abc's and 123's. Colors and shapes etc... When I was a nanny I taught the two boys how to add and subtract, how to write letters, animal names, how to make up stories to act out. Have a dress up box, with hats, former halloween customes, and purses. Look around in thrift shops, garage sales, clearance items to find these stuff. It is amazing how easy it is to repaint a kids table that was worn. (I used chalk paint on the top so my daughter could draw on the table) Make sure you have stations, so they know where the toys should be. It's remarkably easy to get kids on scheduals as long as you are consistant. Good luck! Jen

I would think you need a schedule
kids come in and play- have containers of different free playing things- a tub of vehicles, a little 'house' area with dolls, kitchen & kitchen things, etc, cardboard blocks to build with, puzzles to do

then clean up

then circke time- sit on the floor and sing some songs, read a book

then snack
then clean up

I would visit a local daycare as if you're considering it for your child & ask to look at their schedule ;)
