My parents are moving out of state far away from us due to a job change. Has anyone else gone through this with their kids? I was wondering what you might have done to help explain and ease the transition for your kids.

Thanks for your help

I am not really sure of a way to ease the transition, at that young of an age it is hard to understand that someone isn't where they always were. I would instead focus on how to keep them connected to their grandparents after the move. Maybe set up to send videos of the kids doing things and have your parents send video messages back to the kids once a month or so and send pictures alot. besides that all you can really do is talk on the phone and visit when you have a chance.

is a webcam a possibility? my parents moved 6 hrs from us because of a job, and my 2 1/2 year old son is taking it ok, but we do get to see them via webcam once in a while.

its so frustrating :( im sorry for your situation, i know exactly how you feel.

This just happened for me the grandparent. We got a video camera for the computer and she loves it!! My daughter just lets her do what ever if she talks okay and if she plays with seeing us fine too! We talk on the phone too. We send little things in the mail and she send us paintings she has made. It works just make it work!!

I agree that the best thing to do is focus on maintaining a connection once they have moved. Take a look at getting a web cam and setting up a family blog. Best of luck to you!
