Ideas for a House Warming Gift

My now husband and I were in the same situation a few years back the gifts I enjoyed the most were the gift baskets. I got a mexican theme one with margarita glasses and tortilla warmer, salsa, chips, margarita mix, tortilla holder, and fahita pan. I also got a cleaning one in a bucket with gloves, several types of cleaning wipes (dusting, windows, bathroom, and kitchen) sponges, scrub brush, and swiffers. I also got a kitchen towel basket which was a wire basket with my kitchen towel colors and pot holders with wine, crackers, and cheese.

If they're getting married soon, check their registry for a household item or a vase or something.

Otherwise, I usually buy my clients (I'm a realtor) a 5-gallon paint bucket ($5 at Home Depot) filled with either moving snacks like bottles of water, 2-liter bottle/s of pop, chips, cookies, crackers, etc.; or filled with paint brushes, a tarp, a paint roller, and a gift certificate for $25, since people usually like to paint when they first move into a house.

If you're wanting to do a food item, what about something like muffins? Yummy and freezable if necessary. Or maybe a cake without chocolate, like pineapple upside down, lemon, vanilla, etc.
If you're wanting to do something different. How about starting a scrapbook that contains pictures from their relationship? It would make a wonderful gift and would be something nice to look at with family and friends. If you pick the right book, it could ever look like a decoration and stay out for all to see.

My favorite gift was a gift card. Cards to places like Lowe's, Home Depot, Linens N' Things, or Bed Bath & Beyond. There are so many things that you need with a new place and the gift cards come in so handy! :)

The best home warming/wedding present that I received was a fire extinguisher and a CO detector....something that most people dont think to get anyone or buy for themselves yet something very important to own with your house just in case.

how about some Kitchen tools? Get a crock or caddy & fill them up with basic stuff like spatulas, measuring spoons, whisks, spreaders, ect...

Are they wine drinkers? A nice bottle of wine, paired with 2 wine glasses...

Some pictures frames.. You can find some nice ones at Kohls or Bed, Bath & Beyond..

Just a few ideas...

Since they have already been together for a few years they have most likely already gotten alot of the things that they needed. You may want to put together a gift basket with everyday items that they will need. Such as papertowels, lint roller, clorox wipes, SOS pads, batteries, a small flashlight, Tylonel, etc...

We recently moved and got some fun gifts - a gift certificate to Trader Joe's (which we love), a board game (we play lots), and someone brough us fire wood for our outdoor fire pit! We loved them all!

We got what I thought was a neat gift - a pasta strainer/colander with a few kinds of pasta inside, along with a unique kind of sauce, some olive oil, seasonings and a cute potholder. It was wrapped in the clear celophane wrapper and tied with a bow. Loved it!

I usually purchase a bottle of wine. Even if they don't drink much, they can save it for a future occasion when they have others over who do. If they are against alcohol, then it's a bad idea. :)

When we moved into our house, some friends went together for a gift card to Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Or get them something small from their wedding registry.

A nice house plant

A gift basket - filled with lots of goodies. You can decide where to go. I received one from Harry & David and it was great! It had a pasta/italian theme to it.

A card with a gift card to Bed Bath and Beyond or Home Depot or something of that nature.

A bottle of wine and maybe even a small wine rack and a card.

A "bar set" with two martini glasses & martini "mix book".

Personalized beer mugs/coasters.

A candle or two - I personally like soy as they have a greater smell and put less toxins in air.

If they are outdoor people, maybe a "barbecue set" (barbecue cookbook and thermometer & barbecue sauce - or something like that). Or outdoor decoration like a wind-like chime (but not exactly so it isn't as loud and their new neighbors don't hate them!)

A handmade quilt or afghan if you can sew, knit, or crochet is always appreciated.
