Ideal Fruits for Snacks

I send two servings of fruit with my son to eat at his daycare and my staples have been banana and cut up watermelon. I need some more ideas. Berries seem to be too tart for my son's tastes plus they're rather expensive! Apples would go brown if I cut them in advance. Any ideas that may work? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Most berries, if you put just a touch of sugar on them when they are sliced or toss them in honey that might help with the tartness. You could also try Kiwi rings or mango slices. My son is addicted to canteloup melon slices mixed with pineapple, grapes (slightly peeled and sliced depending on age), mandarin organges and strawberries. Really any fruits will do, try them at home before sending him off to school with them.

hello
I find that apples don't go really brown when put in tupperware.
Additionally, I often send mango slices/pieces.... LOVE LOVE it chilled......
you can also do guava...
Also.. what about pineapple? if you don't want to cut a fresh one up, you can buy it in it's own juice, fresh is best but hey.. when you can't get it.. the canned isn't so bad, esp when chilled..
My son also likes red bell pepper... they are sweet , tasty and packed full of Vitamin C.
I also pack green beans, fresh ones that is.. lightly steamed.. my son loves those..
don't forget about pears... although they will brown, but again, I find tupperware helps that..
Cherry tomatoes are also a nice treat.. not sure how old your child is, but if 2 or under.. maybe not, due to their size.. but if older, then these are also a good option.

best of luck

If you mix the apples with pineapple juice they won't go brown.
My son likes the peaches, pineapples and mandarin oranges as a snack.

I use that little gadget to cut and core apples at the same time . . .I then soak them in salt water and baggie them up and they don't turn brown. I don't like prepackaged apples because of the chemicals - this works great.

on apples put a little lemon juice on them and they wont brown as much... my daughter loves grapes, cantalope, honeydew, oranges (slices with the rhine still on), strawberries, peaches, pears, bananas. maybe put one new fruit in every few days and let your son pick out what he wants to try that day :)

If you dip apples in lemon juice, they will not go brown. I used to do that for soccer snacks for the entire teams my kids were on all the time and it works. I put lemon juice in a bowl, cut the apples, put them in a bowl, then set them on a towel to dry.
Grapes are great and priced lovely right now.
Strawberries, orange slices, peaches, kiwi, mangos, plums.

My kids love fruit. I would not put sugar, there is enough natural sugar in them. Also, my 21 month old eats grapes just fine without peeling or slicing, it is actually his favorite fruit. I taught him to chew, he asks for those and plain strawberries all the time!

Just keep trying new things. Most fruits are cheaper than buy junky pre-packaged snacks and way more filling to the tummy. Buy a couple new things at a time and see how it goes. You could even get the frozen kinds, we do that in the off season and they enjoy them just as much. :)

Dried fruit is also a great healthy snack option.
