I Think It's an Allergic Reaction to Carrots

My 19 mo daughter ran a low grade fever this morning and has had bouts of diarrhea today. I have given her tylenol for the fever and it seems to have gone away. Still, her bottom is VERY raw, VERY swollen, and VERY red. She is telling me it hurts. I am not sure if this is a stomach flu or a reaction to the raw carrots she ate yesterday. Has anyone had this type of thing happen with a food allergy? What do you use to take the hurt away on her bottom?

Please HELP!!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Elizabeth got over the diarrhea that day. It took the next two days, baths, and Burts Bee's butt cream to get rid of the rash. Thanks for all of your responses!

My son (age 2) has very similiar reactions every time he eats carrots, but so far no doctor has said he is allergic to them. It got to the point that I could look at his bottom and know what he ate for lunch at school. After finally finding his new allergist, she said to make sure he didn't eat them again. That was months ago and no more reactions!

The hardest part....finding soups, mixed vegetables, etc that don't have carrots in them.

With the fever, I bet it's not a food allergy. There shouldn't be any reason to run a temp with a food allergy. I bet it's a stomach bug or something like that.

Not sure about the carrots as far as an allergy, but for the bottom here is what I suggest. Go to Walgreens and get some Triple Paste. It is pricy but a MIRACLE! We use Desiten Creamy at night and only reserve the Triple Paste for rare issues like you are having. It will heal it in a few hours....never seen anything like it! Good luck to you and stay away from those carrots for a while! :-)

Oh, Jodi, I am so sorry to hear about little Elizabeth! I bet you anything it is a stomach bug - Jack had one a couple weeks ago, and they are really going around right now. It seems like a bout of diarrhea can give them diaper rash in nothing flat. We just did the best we could to keep cream on his bottom and to use warm wet washcloths to clean him off, since the wipes would hurt him. I also put cornstarch in the tub to let him soak. We had some Vusion cream that the doctor had prescribed for another rash, so we used that, but it still didn't totally clear up until the diarrhea went away.

I hope she gets to feeling better soon!

Every time my daughter ate carrots she threw up. The doc said a child may have one veggie or food they can't tolerate, but for another child it may be corn. We went to a herbal doctor in Dallas for Kinesology testing and he test for food. Very inexpensive. If you would like information on him....let me know.

Doesn't sound like a food allergy. For her sore bottom, try letting her soak in Aveeno Oatmeal Bath. It is wonderful!!!
