Well my daughter is 16 months old and was curious when I should completly bottle braek her. She only has her bottle at nap time and bed time that's it. During the day and with all of her meals she has a sippy cup. 2 days ago she went all day without a bottle. I was very impressed, but then the day after that she insisted on her ba ba for bed time. So I was just curious about when she should be done with the bottle. I'm looking forward to reading everyones responses. Thanks, and have a great day!

I breast fed both of my children until 9 months old, and they went straight from the breast to sippee cups. And as soon as they could drink from a straw, they used the straw cups you can buy at target. The sooner the better! Good luck!

I broke my daughter of the bottle at 12 months when the dcotor said she was done. At first she wanted nothing t odo with a sippy cup. But one day I just refused to give her a bottle at all so she took the cup and we have had no problems since then. Hope this helps!

I broke my son from the bottle at 12 mo. Thats what his ped. suggested and I'm having a new baby so it seemed easier to do it now. It wasn't too hard he had been using sippy cups too so I just put his milk in those. He objected the first day and then he was fine. I'm sure the sooner you do it the easier because as time passes she will just grow more attached to it. Good luck it might be challenging.

I just took the bottle from my son exactly a month ago, at 13 months, Him or I wasn't ready at 12 months and his doctor didn't seem to concerned she said when he is ready..I hadn't introduced the cup early enough..So he totally refused it
I had to start with the hardest bottle.. The BEDTIME one!!!
His babysitter DIDN'T work with me I would send 1 bottle of milk with him for nap and sippy cups for the rest of the day..They would just reuse the bottle, and dump the sippy's out and at home he would only get a sippy.. TALK ABOUT CONFUSION...
So I just decided one night no bottle just his cup for bed.. He refused it, and cried so we just layed him down in his bed with nothing, And I said to my fiance' If I can get through tonight with no bottle, then his babysitter could go all day with no bottle.. He got up once that night and I offered him his cup, and he went right back to sleep, the next day I only sent him with cups.. That night I threw all the nipples away, but I kept the bottles (I used the playtex dropins)
Not a bottle since, and get this he used to wake up at night for his bottle, but he doesn't wake up at all anymore!! There is some positive in there..
Just go cold turkey.. Its not really that bad... It seems terrible
Just throw the bottles out so there is no turning back..
She may refuse it at first but be persistent!!! She will give in!!
GOOD LUCK... HOPE THAT HELPS....

Hey W..

Mine little girl is 16mths also. I got her off the bottle at 13mths. She only took a bottle before bed (at that point). The first couple of days were a little more difficult (not as bad as I had expected). Once we made it through those it was smooth sailing. At first she wouldn't take the sippy in the evening. But, gradually she started taking it. It sounds like she's ready anyway. GOOD LUCK!

I had my daughter broken at about 11 months old. She didn't fuss over loosing the bottle, so much as she had issues with the hard tip of a sippy cup (it required a little more suction from her). I found using the Nuby soft tip sippy cup for a month helped her get the hang of the sippy cup and she easily took to the hard tip sippy cup and has never looked for a bottle since. It may be a good way to transition your daughter from bottle to cup. And like many other moms, my pedi said to have her completely off the bottle by the time she was 1 due to tooth decay.

I broke my daughter at 12 months, when the ped. suggested. It was rough for 2 days, but haven't had a problem since. My daughter is now 16 months and I took in a 6 week old, and I thought giving him the bottle in front of her, she would want it, but no problems at all. The only thing is you have to be strong! If you say no, she can only have the sippy, then you can't give in to her! With my daughter, it was really only 2 days of crying and barely drinking out of the sippy, then she was fine. I agree with everyone else, I threw out the bottles, because I knew I would give in if they were around. Cold turkey is the best way. She WILL drink out of it when she is thirsty enough!
I would suggest though, this seemed to help a lot, don't give her milk in the same sippy as you do water/juice. Let her have her very own special sippy cup for milk. Maybe even take her to the store and let her pick it out. This way, it can be just as comforting as a bottle.
Good luck!

My pediatrician told me it would be best to have Ava off the bottle at 12 months. We to did the same thing, bottle at bedtime. She will be 15 months on the 2nd of September. Last week she spent the night at my dads and we accidently left the bottles there so it has been a week with no bottle and luckily she doesnt seem to miss it. I would say that it is easier to get them off when they are younger...the older and more attached they get the harder it will be to get her off. Maybe give her the sippy cup instead of bottle, then eventually to nothing at all or water. We all hear how bad it is for that milk to sit on their teeth all night!! SO much for us to consider..:O)
Good luck,
L.
