I Just Don't Remember, Please Help!

The birth of my first child went so quickly I don't really remember what happened. I remember saying I won't do that again, but now that the time has come I don't remember what those things are. I never lost my plug and my water never broke. Can you please tell me how your birth experiences went and what if anything you would change?

What can I do next?

I used a birthing tub for a while and love it! I didnt deliver in it, but it sure did help with the contractions!

I don't think I would change anything--my deliveries were quick and awesome (hooray for epidurals!). My water broke at home both times and I was induced after a certain amount of time. I really like my doctor and figure she makes a living delivering babies, my body knows what to do, and we'll just go from there. You cannot plan for what might happen, just bring your bag, keep some emergency numbers handy, and make sure if it is not your doctor delivering you tell whoever it is if you do not want an episiotomy. I was warned that some doctors still do that routinely and you have to tell them not to. I did not consider my deliveries an "experiece" that I needed to have any control over. It is a biological way to bring that glorious new life into the world, so while I felt great being pregnant and adore my children, I am pretty indifferent to savoring the experience of child birth. :)

When I went into labor, the nurses asked me to lie down because my water HAD broken. They said walking around would cause a risk of infection. I was in labor for nearly 18 HOURS, and they made me lie down for the entire thing! I am completely convinced that, had they let me walk, the labor would have progressed faster, and my doctor assures me that they exaggerated the risk of infection. Next time, I plan to stand up for myself against the nurses and do what I think is best instead of just taking their word for it.

each birth is so different. I just want to offer you this: Your body knows exactly what to do, so does your sweet little baby. If you don't remember your first birth, that's OK. You're doing wonderfully.

I wish you a blessed, peaceful and healthy birth. Congratulations!

Each one is different and you may never have the same things happen as the first time. My first was 6 weeks early and breech, and I had two others breech but not in order of births and some my water broke, some not, one I lost the plug, only with the first, one my water broke at home, all so different. Each one is special though and I think with all of the 8 I had I said 'never again' during the labor. Somehow I always forgot. :-) I still remember the pain but it's not as sharp in my memory. I will say I had my kids in the 'old days' and they didn't use epidurals but pericervical or pudental blocks, probably spelled wrong. Now they say those were not too safe but in my day they said the spinal type blocks weren't safe, now they say they are but the point is that I do feel the blocks slowed down my labor and with the last one I had only a shot of demerol and it was so much better in my opinion. I would just try to do it a little more natural. One of my girls had her baby with nothing at all and did fine and two had epidurals and did fine. Just know it will be special even if different from the first.

my birth experiences were both fast and painful in the end. If your first was fast, let's hope this one is fast too and you don't have time to not want to do something again.

I don't really think you can plan like that. Each time it is different. Try and look at it as a new adventure, but this time you will have some experience to help you through.

my first was exactly like yours, never lost the mucus plug (or at least I never noticed it) and they broke my water. I had an epidural and everything went great, the only thing I'd change is having people in the room, I'd rather only have my husband with me for future pregnancies.
with my second I had a c-section.
Anyways don't stress out, every birth is different and it never happens exactly like the book.
Good luck !
