How Late Is Late?

My husband and I just started trying for our first child about 6 weeks ago. I had been on birthcontrol for years, but even before I went on the pill, my periods were very regular. Anyway, I'm a few days late, and have no signs of starting. How long should I wait before I take a test? I'm on pins and needles, but trying very hard not to stress.

So What Happened?

Well I took everyone's advise and bought a test yesterday... Unfortunately, it was negative. I did buy the 2 pack, so I'll wait a few days and try again. Thanks to all of you for your advise and accounts of your own experiences. It was very reassuring. Thanks again!!

Go ahead and take one now. If it comes up negative wait a week and test again. Hope it's good news!

Take the test today! If you get a negative test, wait a few more days, and if you still haven't started, take another.
Also, pay attention to how you're feeling as well. The changes may be very subtle...any twinge of nausea in the morning? Sleepier than normal?

You know your body better than anyone, if you are curious, go buy one today. I had a feeling that I was when I was three days late, but waited another week just to make sure. Good Luck! :)

Get to the drug store silly! Buy a brand that has 2 test, that way if your first one was negative and you still haven't started in a few days you can take another one. Good Luck!!

The morning tinkle is the best...most concentrated, so if you get a negative and don't start in a few more days, do another one in the AM.

Good luck!

Go buy a test, I was only two days late when I took the EPT test and got a positive result. I was always regular too and when I didn't start just knew I was pregnant.

It takes your body a bit to adjust to being off the pill. Both times I tried to get pregnant, I had two normal cycles of about 28 days, then one longer cycle of 35+ days.

I would say wait until you're about 5 days late. But if your test comes back negative, try not to worry. You might not be pregnant, or you might be too early. Your body just needs time to remember how to work without a pill.

I was off the pill for one month when I became pregnant and I had been on it for 9 years with out stopping. I might wait a few more days before taking the test just to save some money. Also, your doctor can do a blood test and tell that way also.

Take the test, my 1st pregnancy and 2nd were posotive the 1st day of my missed period.
Any time of the day is a good time to take the test.
If you're pregnant, you're pregnant and it will show fast on the test!!
Good Luck!

I was Like you. I was off BC for a year. We tried for 6 months, before I conceived. Funny thing, KI bought the exspensive test every other month. The week before Thanksgiving, I took an E.P.T test, still negative. I knew something was different. I was very tired, and I had menstral like pains, but no period. So one night after work, I went to the dollar store, and bought 4 test. Got home that evening, and took the test, and within a few seconds whamo!! 2 pink lines. Since my test were only a dollar, I took another to make sure, same result, two days later same result, anyway, you see the picture. So In my opinion, go buy the dollar store brand, they work just the same, and you save money.

I took a test the second day after I was supposed to start. I was just like you. My only difference is we tried for 6 years. It was funny because the day before we had gone to see a fertility specialist to go on a baby plan( drugs). If you are pregnant congrats. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. You can email me at ____@____.com or through mamasource.

Good Luck

Here's a personal question. How do your boobs feel? That was my sure sign. Mine were so sensitive it hurt to wash them in the shower! With my second child I wasn't even late when I took my pregnancy test. I took it because it was my anniversary and I wanted to be able to tell my husband if I was pregnant or not. I wasn't due to start for 4 more days. The tests these days are very sensitive! There was no mistaking that the test was positive and I had not yet missed my period. Good luck!

I was in the same situation as you two years ago. :) My husband and I started trying and literally within a cycle or two I was pregnant. We couldn't believe it. In fact, he's the one that remembered about a week after I should have started, that I was late...lol. Do yourself a favor and go get a test. The tests now are VERY good and will likely be able to tell by now. GOOD LUCK!!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! As for what to expect, pregnancy is so different for each person. It is a wonderful experience though...and once you get past the worrying about the health of the baby, etc...it is just an amazing experience. Our son is now 27 months old and is just an amazing kid. They are a blast! Good luck, keep us posted!!!
