This is my daughter's first day out of school and she is spending it with her dad and her big sister (26) who is here visiting from CA. I am spending the day on the couch with an ugly cold :(

I am so looking forward to this summer, though. DD (9) has several fun things scheduled - horse camp, theater camp, circus and sailing classes. She still has quite a bit of time for us to go to pools and beaches, and bike rides around the lakes. Since her dad is retired, and I work PT, she doesn't need to be in a full-time daycare program, which opens up all these fun options.

My challenge is that I am just kicking off work on my dissertation towards my PhD, and I am working on balancing the summer fun with real progress towards that goal! We had such a long, snowy winter that it is tempting just to bask in the nice days.

Well, its hot here and luckily our house has a built in pool. In addition to that I bought all of us summer passes to the big water park. We haven't gone yet, next Wed will be our first day and will probably go 3x per week. I know the kids will love it and it will wear them out. This is really all we are doing this summer. Do you have a Walgreens? The have really cute water sprinkler things that spray water for the kids. I think they are $10 and come in SpongeBob, Cars and Disney Princesses. I considered getting one of those too but we don't have any grass! Hope you find a car soon and some fun things to do!

I hope your summer break gets better.

I'm a teacher, so I've been sooooo happy to be free this week! My 7 year old has been in basketball camp in the mornings this week, and when we pick him up we've had fun each day. I also have a 13 year old son. One day we went to a waterpark with friends, another day we went to lunch with friends and then came back to the house and played outside. My husband came home for lunch one day and stayed home for a couple of hours. That was fun just all hanging out together. One day we watched Toy Story 3. Today my 13 year old is going to cook dinner, and it required quite a bit of prep work, so this afternoon I'm going to supervise him in the kitchen. The 7 year old will likely want to help, too. After that, I'll leave for an hour or so to get my hair colored, then when I get back my son will finish dinner. Yay!

I REALLY love summer! :)

my husband works 2 days one week and 5 the next, so on his short weeks we will go to the beach 1-2 days a week. i will try to get the kids to the library for craft time and story book time. i also will take them to their cousins' house, and also their grandparents who watch another cousin during the summer. I will also have my nieces/nephews over for the summer on some days. we will go to a waterpark that is near us, too. we already took our vacation as the kids got out of school on 5/27.

I keep paint and newspint handy, also play dough, stuff for paper mache, boxes, crayons, legos etc. All of the neighborhood kids play outside for a time and then stop by to make a picture or something and then back outside again. We have a Wii - but so does half the neighborhood so they go from house to house. I work at home so the kids just kind of entertain themselves.

Watching the Casey Anthony case on 'In Session' while working out, getting dressed to pick up the four year old from his last day of school. After that we're meeting our friends for lunch that are here visiting from Portland. She was my maid of honor some 19 years ago.

Do you have a bus service that runs near your house? When our car is in the shop we take the bus everywhere. We spend our days going to the local environmental center kids program, or music at the library, or a MOMs playgroup at the park, or the local science museum has a kid's program one day a week, or hiking on nearby trails, or going to the neighborhood pool, or meeting up with friends for a playdate, or feeding the ducks at the duck pond. We can walk to a park, the horse stables, or to a trail from our house. We rarely stay home all morning but when at home we play in the sandbox, with the water table, in the kiddie pool, and on the trampoline. Of course there is also lunchtime and naptime. Afternoons are when we go to the pool. My older son is in some camps off and on so there is also come driving/carpooling him to his activities. Good luck finding a car! I hate being stuck at home...it seems like my kids and I start getting cabin fever!

My kids are not done with school until next week :( We plan on spending as much time outside of the house playing as we possibly can.

I have a bike with a kid trailer attachment for my younger two to ride in and my oldest has his bike..So, my goal is too try and get as many bike rides in as we possibly can.

Our Spring has been more like a late fall. It has been dark, cold and not so inviting. So, if we are blessed with any length of nice weather I am just gonna be tickled!!

We did have a stretch about two weeks ago that was just amazing..Warm and bright..I keep praying that was not summer for us....Sadly we have gone right back to cold and yuck outside!!

We keep telling ourselves this is only a momentary thing....but it keeps dragging on:)
