Highback Booster Seat W/5 Point Harness for Tall Kids? What Do You Use?

My 4 1/2 year old is ready to move out of her Britax Boulevard - which we have loved. But she's getting too tall for it and the harness is getting pretty tight. Especially with a coat on.

I really want to keep her in a 5 point harness for safety as well as because we have an 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport that I think may be tough to use with a shoulder/lap belt.

I'm going dizzy looking at the options and being able to know if they will work in our car as well as with her height for another few years.

Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the recommendations/reviews so far! The frontier 90 and the diono radian (not sure which model yet) are so far the top choices. I like the fact the frontier allows for the tallest 5point harness use...but a little concerned it will work as a highback booster with our seat belts in an older car. The pinnacle looks good too but the jeep seats are narrow so not sure it would fit. The diono I'm just thinking I will need to switch out of the harness sooner than the frontier. ? Maybe I'm wrong?
And...thanks for mentioning the coats! As I've been researchig I came across that actually. Never knew it! Tho dont typically wear coats because of the fit and/or because it is too hot for her. That said- I have done it before and never knew. So thank you! Absolutely want to be the safest we can be always!

We have the Sunshine Kids (Now Diono) 5pt carseat that we use for our 4.5 year old that is close in size to a 6 year old. It's a fantastic seat with high safety ratings. It's also got a narrow base so it fits well in most cars. It's convertible to a booster when the time comes to switch her to that. It attaches using LATCH when being used as a booster so it does not become a projectile in the event of an accident.

I am a bit concerned when you mention leaving your child's coat on in a car seat. Please tell me you do not mean a large winter coat! It is dangerous to buckle a child in their seat with a bulky/puffy coat on. Please read the information in the following link about the safety of leaving a child in their coats while buckled in their seats.

#1 - no coats when buckled into the car seat.

I just moved my almost 5 year old into the Pinnacle 90, love it!

Edited: you really can't go wrong with britax... we have the sunshine radian(now diono) in my husband's car bc all three were in car seats for a short time and that was all that fit three across... it's a good seat and a safe seat, but the padding and comfort is inferior to britax, especially if that's what your child is used to. I'd avoid Graco/Cosco and the like at all costs - good luck :)

My 6 year old is in the Britax Frontier in one car and the Graco Nautilus in the other. He has plenty of room to grow in each and he's already about 49" and 53 lbs. He prefers the Britax for comfort but the Graco is less expensive and easier to install. If you can afford the Britax and don't need to move it frequently, I think it is definitely worth the extra money. Otherwise, my son is also happy in the Graco.

Both seats convert to both a high back and backless booster over time.

LOVE our Graco Nautilus. We just moved my son (he was 7 at the time) from the 5 point harness to the high back booster. It is a 3 in 1 seat that works as either a high or low back booster up to 100 lbs and as a car seat w 5 point restraint up to 65 lbs.

We have the Britax Frontier 85. It does cost a lot, but as my hubby pointed out, she is in my car, a lot! She is now 7y, weighs 47 lbs, and doesn't mind using it, because she picked the color. Before we had the Britax Marathon with a purple floral pattern, that 'was babyish'. I didn't think so, but ...

I found ours on Amazon, on a really good sale. It was around $200, saving 80+, with free shipping. It arrived at our door 2 days later. Yeah!
