You should see a general surgeon or a plastic surgeon. I don't recommend seeing a gyn surgeon for this, as they don't do this procedure very often. It is a very common procedure in general and plastic surgery, and you will have a good result (I am a surgeon by training, although not general or plastics).

I had a huge tear in almost the whole length of my stomach muscle after 3 pregnancies (including twins) and my gyn referred me to a plastic surgeon.

Look in the yellow pages for a doctor that is in gastroenterology. I found out I had an umbilcal hernia, the same day I found out I was pregnant with my daughter! It hurt soo bad, most of the time it hurt to even get up and move. It was so big, that people thought it was the babies foot sticking out. I had to wait 6 weeks until my daughter was born before they could do surgery. I have 2 very tiny scars from where the went in with cameras to perform the surgery, it has been almost 5 years and I am doing good. I went to a doctor in Lynn Haven, Fl. Good Luck!

With my youngest son, he had the ingenial hernia when he was under 3 months old. I took him into his pediatrician and they sent me to see a specialist. They stalled me but it was removed. When my oldest got the ingenial hernia he was 14 at the time.My son was referred by a family doctor before I took him to my local hospital and they had me see a surgeon, an outpatient specialist. Within a month his was removed.
I don't believe all hernias are a threat, but its good to make sure. G.
