Does anyone have any information on Hemangiomas and the removal of it with Laser? My daughter has one on her back. After she turned one year old, we were referred to a dermatologist just to look at it. It's been three months since and since her visit, she's had problems with it, with last week being the worst with it bleeding and it hurt her because she wouldn't let me touch it to put ointment on it.

What can I do next?

My daughter had one on her forehead that was about a centimeter in diameter. Our pediatrician told us to wait on it as many go away before the child is 5yo. She's now 2.5 and its completely gone. I'm glad we didn't put her thru any major procedures but we also didn't have many problems with it. It can be scary when they bleed, so manybe if she's having problems you should go back in and get all your options. Goodluck

My daughter was born with a huge one on her back. People would stop me and ask, "What's wrong with your baby?" It was a lot smaller by the time she was three, and now that she is eight you can barely see it at all. Do not go through with the laser procedure until she is older would be my advice.

Dear B.,

I have no experience with it, but I do feel that you should go back to your doctor and quiz him more.

I know, those drama queens are really something special aren't they? We have one too and she is five years old now, and more into school but she hasn't given up her homebound kingdom yet. When she was very young, she tried telling mom and dad what to do, so they made her 'boss of the dog', and she really took it seriously. That dog couldn't get away with anything.

Good luck, C. N.

Hi: My suggestion is before any kind of surgery, you consult with a Dr. Devi Nambudripad, to make sure that surgery is the route you want to take. She is a doctor in both western medicine and eastern medicine and might have a non-invasive way to remove the Hemangiomas. Please visit NAET.com and do some research there, and read her book "Say Good-bye to Illness." You may also want to read "Say Good-bye to Children's Allergies."

Best wishes

Hello! My good girlfried's daughter had a large hemangioma on the top of her head. She had many complications with it including bleeding and infection. With time her daughter's hemangioma dissappeared completely. She now is 7 and there is no sign of it. She even grew hair in the area the hemangioma once was. Good luck! I wish you the best!

My 19 month old has a small one on her back about the size of a nickel. Her doc's told me that it would probably go away by the time she is five. It is disappearing faster then I ever imagined. Give it time.

Hi B.. I am a nurse who worked for a plastic and reconstructive surgeon for 13 years working with children as well as adults. During that time we did see and do laser surgery on several babies whom had hemangiomas with great success. First...it is not a one time procedure. If laser is used it is a slower process, and is repeated until the area is removed. This is usually done weeks (6+-) between each treatment. It's usually safer, but nothing of course is guaranteed. I would consult a Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon (different from a PLASTIC SURGEON, only). They have the knowledge and training to deal with aesthetic as well as reconstruction of the area. Some physicians choose to wait until the child is older, if it is safe to do so, as some of these hemangiomas will resolve partly or wholey on their own. Any way you go seek several opinions! Please...don't go with a dermatologist only...your area may have a teaching hospital/university like Loma Linda or UCLA. It is worth the time and trouble for your peace of mind and you beautiful baby's health and long term self esteem to seek someone who is up to the moment on the latest treatment! Good luck! It's worth the time!
