Hi Mommies! We took our dog to a new groomer (Applause for Paws beware!)and brought home fleas! We have given flea baths and treatments to our dog, washed EVERYTHING, vaccumed over and over, and even sprinkled Borax everywhere, and cannot get rid of them. My 2 1/2 year old has 14 bites on him today, poor baby, and I am SO FRUSTURATED!!!!!!! Does anyone have advice about how we can take care of this in a way that is safe for our child and pet? Thanks so much in advance!

Fleabusters is really good. You can have them do it or you can buy it from them and do it yourself. It's non toxic too.

call exteriminators in the area and see what kinds of chemicals they use in their flea killers. i know in our area there is a pest control place that doesn't use chemicals.

also, if you have lavender growing outside your doors this serves as a deterrent for fleas ... they don't like lavender

Ahhh yuck. I sooo understand you! We just had a huge flea problem. We rescued a kitten and let it stay here for a few nights to nurse her back to health, then gave her to the humane society.

We knew she had fleas, but while she was here they never bothered us. Once she left though, the fleas chose my daughter as their new host. She was COVERED in flea bites. I cried it was so bad.

I did EVERYTHING I could to get rid of them, did tons of research online, and nothing completely got rid of them. It would be lots better for one day, then we'd have another outbreak.

After a week and a half or so, I got sick of it and finally, we caved and called flea busters and we are now flea free - Thank God!!! It cost us a ridiculous amount, but it was SO worth it. In that week and a half my daughter had so many bites I was scared she was going to become anemic!! And it just gets worst, becuase of the way they multiply.

I know one thing you can do to "minimize" them, is put a bit of flea-killing powder in your vacuum bag, and then toss it every time your done vacuuming - and try to do that every day. Also, be sure to get in all edges and corners, they like those spots.

But in the end, I definitely recommend you call professionals. It's a losing battle :( I know that the company we used "FleaBusters of Hawaii", guaranties One Year Flee-Free - EVEN if you pet brings home new fleas. So it's worth it, in my opinion!!

Good luck! I so so feel you pain right now. I get the shivers just thinking about it. It was about 3-4 weeks ago that we had the professionals come in and my daughter STILL has scars from the flea bites :(

Hi R.:
I don't know of any groomer, that (doesn't) include a flea dip, prior to grooming a dog. While I seriously doubt, that your dog contacted his fleas at the shop,I do think it quite possible, that your yard is infested with them.I'm assuming your dog goes outside to do his business. Hot summer weather,is when fleas and ticks are most prevalent. Before you can rid yourself of the fleas indoors, you must spray your yard with something or the dog will continue to bring them inside.Take care of the main source first.Plan to leave a few hours and either have someone come in and spray or set off a canister for fleas. You can go nuts, and keep spraying inside, but as long as they are being brought in from outdoors, the problem will exist.Getting your dog a flea and tick collar will help also. I know this is agitating, but hot weather brings with it a few pesky problems.I wish you the best. J. M
