Moms!!!
Help!!! My husband is mexican, and today is Mexico's Independence Day. My husband wanted to go to Mexico but with everything going on, (plus work and school) we couldn't. Anyway, my poor husband has been really down lately, because the problems in Mexico are affecting his family (my father in law was robbed at gun point, they took his ID, and credit cards) Anyway, he is coming home @ 11:30 -12:00 and I would love to do something special for him, you know, cheer him up a bit, only I'm completely out of ideas. So far I have a mexican dinner cooking, but have no idea about something original and special. HELP!!!

What can I do next?

The previous posters have some GREAT ideas-but for something tamer-a pinata? (sorry-don't know how to get the tilde on that...)
An impromptu party?
A parade around the house- or block? Fly a Mexican flag.
A reading of "El Grito?"
Happy 200 years of Independence to Mexico. It seems they may need another "grito" to help free themselves from the craziness that is going on now....

You should have small sombreros for your boobs, maracas for your hands and nothing else. Party in a pinch. Of course, it is a private party. Google it. cb

Maybe he can make a quick call home just to let all know his heart is there. Also, play mexican music or make a centerpiece for table of pictures in the decoration. Good luck

It's not a party w/out mariachi music, how about a little seranade. Call one the local restaurants and see if their mariachis would come out for a few songs.

the news said the officials were asking people to stay at home and watch the parade. perhaps you can find it on you tube or one of the spanish channels. you might be able to watch last years prade on you tube. music, put up banners (you can make them off your computer quickly) if you have some christmas lights you can string up pretty quick in the house, on a tree type plant or just in the center of the table. throw in a little american too and let him know this is his home too.

Instead of cooking I would take him to Hugo's. This one of the very very few restaurants that the food is real Mexican and no Tex-Mex.

I had luch there yesterday and ate very very good Chiles en Nogada, that I have not eaten in 10 years. I have eaten them, just not a real or good one like the one I had yesterday ( I am Mexican and feeling very nostalgic for not been able to be there for this events)

Ok, going back to Hugos, tonight they will have a very special night, a real Mexican buffet that I think is around 35 per adult and 10 per kid and as I read they are having folkloric dances and live music.

By the way the Buffet will start at 5:30, you should visit their website, they do have the information posted there.

I wanted to go but is the parent's orientation night at my kids school ;(

If you go, I would love to know how it was!
