I just found out that my son's insurance coverage from C.H.I.P.S. expires on Sunday & we don't qualify for recoverage. We make about $10 over the limit for a family of three. He has to be covered but I don't know what to do. I only work part time so I'm not even offered insurance & it's WAY too expensive from my husband's job. We haven't been insured for years. I'm just scared that something's going to happen to him while he's not covered & I won't be able to pay for it. And there's no way I can afford $100-$300 a month for coverage. That's what I've been quoted by several companies. What should I do?????

Are you looking for coverage just for your son or for the three of you? Right now, I have health insurance for my 2 year old that runs about 59/ month just for him which includes dental. If you are looking for the three of you, I think it runs about 120/ month. It is Unicare and I am pretty sure everyone qualifies. Also, I am almost completely positive that C.H.I.P.S won't deny you coverage because of ten dollars. I would call them and make completely sure that there is nothing they can do for you considering your case.
Good Luck!

Hi D.,
I am an insurance agent and I know that Unicare's rates are pretty reasonable. Here is a link that you can visit and get some quick quotes on insurance. You can get coverage for your son for less than $100 per month. There is a medical plan that runs about $48 or so with a $2,000 deductible. Dental is about $10 extra per month. Office visits are $30 per visit and the deductible is waived. If you visit the website you will be able to review the coverage details. There is also a new medical plan that Unicare introduced that is called Sound. There is a $1500 deductible plan that includes dental, vision and pharmacy for about $73 per month. All of the information is available on the website. Hope this helps. Feel free to email me with questions and I will gladly get back to you.

I wanted to let you know that I have my son on this Insurance Plan and it seems to work out pretty well considering he has special needs.
Go to WWW.HPA-INC.com or contact them on the phone and they will tell you what different plans they have. They covered my family of 3 for 240.00 a month for all of us and that includes Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Prescription and other. Check it out and good luck.

Most big insurance plans out there offer individual coverage. Unicare is a really popular choice, as is Blue Cross Blue Shield. You can visit their websites and get quotes, etc. It is worth finding the money for health insurance - I highly recommend you get your husband and yourself covered. I know in tough financial situations, you may think it's only important for your son, but if something happens to one of the two of you and you have no insurance, that will bankrupt you, which is worse for your son! Even so, I do know the costs are sky high - just get some type of coverage.

You might also call your son's pediatrician and get advice - as they will be the ones treating him shoul dhe be ill, maybe they'll be more helpful.

Good luck - S.
