Hello, I was thinking of purchasing the Rival-Seal-A-Meal but I don't want it to just end up sitting in a box somewhere. I am trying to cut down on the grocery bill buy buying in bulk & freezing.

What can I do next?

I have the Foodsaver brand. I use it all the time. It is a matter of making myself use it, but when you come home from the store with huge packs of meat worth $$$$, you have an incentive to sit down and separate, seal and freeze. It came in very hand when my husband was doing a lot of ocean fishing this year as well. We had an awesome berry year this year and I sealed cups and cups of huckelberries and blackberries, as well as enough apples for 4 apples pies. It's probably helped save us a couple hundred on our grocery bill each month.

the food saver brand one is great, but I have never tried the rival brand. You may just want to shell out the extra money for the food saver. I don't know anyone who has bought one that hasn't been happy with it.

Hi D., I have one version of the seal-a-meal and I love it. If your looking into purchasing one you should try the hsn.com website they may have a deal on it and their holiday return police is in effect so you have till January to return things from them.

Hi D.,
My daughter bought me a Food Saver Seal a Meal and I loved it.
When it died my hubby bought the rival one because it was cheaper. It doesn't suck as much air out and doesn't seem to seal as well. Hopefully mine was just a lemon one. It does work and I do use it but I can't freeze for as long as the original one.

I grew up with my mom using it, and I work in retail and we still sell a ton of the bags for it, as well as the machines. WE used to make spaghetti sauce in advance and store it that way until we were ready to use it.

My husband bought a Food Saver last year and loves it! We shop in bulk at Coscto and Sams and then come home and break everything up. We also use it to reseal bags of chips and veggies ect.. (when they are not put in the Tupperware!) I think it is a good investment!

My Mom gave me a Food saver seal-a-meal for Christmas about ten years ago,...I absolutely love it and it has saved me money. There is nothing better for freezing meat. I think my favorite thing to do is buy bulk hamburger, seal it and then roll it out flat (with a rolling pin) this way when it goes into the freezer it takes up very little space and once removed from the freezer the meat thaws out super fast and you can literally go from freezer to dinner in half an hour. I have also made bulk meat loaf this way.

We don't have this particular brand, but we do have a vacuum sealer that we love. I have to admit though, we don't use it all the time, but that's mostly because I'm not a huge fan of leftovers. We usually use it for large amounts of bbq... brisket, ribs, etc. And it's really easy to reheat. Just boil bag. It's been a great purchase.
