Hi ladies, wondering if anyone else has noticed excessive hair loss after going off the pill. I have an 11 month old so I've already done my post-partum shedding! Just seems like more than normal is coming out.

What can I do next?

With the cold weather you will notice a lot more hair falling out! Every fall/winter I shed more than my dogs! lol My hubby is tired of it blowing around in the car it is falling out so bad. It lasts like this til about Jan and then it is fine and I am far from being bald!

If you notice anything like being excessively tired and your hair falling out or anything else that is not normal then definately a call in to the Dr would be wise but my guess is it is just the weather!

Good luck to ya and do not forget to have a catcher in your tub or you will plug your tub up.... I learned the hard way!

Blessings to you and yours!

After my son was born I lost so much hair (and complained about it continously) that my co-workers bought me an old, 1940's style aviator hat, complete with glasses to help me know that they noticed and could not care one bit. I was offended at first but realized they wanted to lighted the load I was carrying and have me "lighten up" and not worry so much. My hair came back eventually, but it did take about a year. I did not take vitamins or anything else, just let nature take it's course. And I did stop taking the pill after my son's birth.

Have you had your thyroid tested? My hair was falling out excessively after about 6 months after I had my first son, they did a blood test and I have hypothyroidism. Your hormones could be screwed up from the pill also.

Hi J.,

You sound like me. I posted this a few months ago and didn't really get responses except for someone who said it was stress and another who wanted to help me with more natural products. I had the same exact thing happen after going off the pill. However, at first I thought it was in my head. After many months, and losing a ton of hair, I saw a dermatologist who said it was a hormonal imbalance. However, I know I already have hypothyroidism...had it for the last 8 years or so. So, now I have been seeing an endocrinologist to monitor my thyroid. On a side note, my scalp itches me like mad and it quite dry. Don't know if your is the same.

Anyway, the endo said that while my regular internist said my thyroid is in the "normal" range, there is a huge normal range. And, mine was quite low and getting lower (while still in the normal range). Most people do well in the middle of the "normal" range. He ran tons of blood tests on me (to make sure I wasn't producing too little estrogen/too much testosterone, iron deficiency, etc). All these things can also cause hair loss. Anyway, he has kicked up my throid medicine and I go for a re-test tomorrow. I am still losing lots of hair though. But, I've only been on the new doseage for a month or so. I've been having this hair loss for 10 months or so and for me, I feel like I waited too long before getting this checked out. I now have quite a bit of thinning in areas.

Bottom line, you could have a thyroid issue as well. I would get it checked out.
