Hi Moms,

We're planning on moving to the Glenview area from the city and are looking for a good preschool for our now 3.5 yr old son. Can anyone recommend a preschool that is good with special needs kids? My son had a stroke in utero and has some learning difficulties. He currently receives speech and OT services at school. If there are preschools in Glenview that have more favorable student:teacher ratios or smaller class sizes that would be preferable.

Also, does anyone have experience in receiving special services through the Glenview public school system that they would like to share?

Thank you!

Karen

Hello:

I'm a speech pathologist in Northbrook. I think the best thing for you to do is call Pathways in Glenview. They're a therapy center and they work with kids like your son. They would probably be able to tell you the best and most accomodating preschools. They're very knowledgeable!

Good luck!

J.

As a previous Early Childhood Psychologist for the North Shore, I have several suggestions. First, be sure to contact NSSED, Northern Suburban Special Education District
760 Red Oak Lane, Highland Park, IL 60035 ###-###-####. Your son may be eligible for the free program offered through your school district. If he did not received an educational assessment at age three, this can occur through their services. They can also assist you with a referral to private preschools with whom their students have had success.

If you wish to discuss elementary schools which are known for providing the best services in Glenview/Northbrook, I can be reached at ____@____.com.

A couple years ago my son took speech therapy at Westbrook Elementary in Glenview (http://www.glenview34.org/wb). I think all the special ed programs filter through there. I liked his therapist, but I'm not sure if she's there anymore. Her name is Charlotte Monhart. I think Glenview Public schools in general are very good.
