Hi! I have a question about the bed I should buy. I am a first time parent so I need some advice please. My daughter is 18 months old and when she is around 2 I am going to try to introduce her to a bed, My question is do I get her a twin bed or a toddler bed?? I don't know how long they can stay in toddler beds but I like the idea cause she is such a climber that I feel if I get her a regular bed she will be higher off the ground and that scares me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
R. J.

So What Happened?

Thank you for your advice I appreciate the responses I received. I think that when she is ready I am going to put the mattress on the floor for a while and then I will go straight to a twin bed. By the sounds of it that seems like the best thing to do.

Thank you once agian you all are a great support system!!

I introduced my daughter to a toddler bed when she was about 18 months, with the disney princesses on it and it was a big hit. She wanted nothing to do with the crib anymore and slept great in it. it is much closer to the ground and she is still using it now at 2 and half. I think she will be fine for a little longer yet.

I first took the crib matteress and put it on the floor for my son. That way if he fell off it wouldn't be far and not a big deal. Once he was used to sleeping on it and not rolling off I knew he was ready to move to a regular bed. It took me a long time to decide on a toddler bed or a twin bed. I believe the toddler bed last up to 3 years of age. I didn't think that was worth sinking the money into. So then I looked in to twin beds...again costly..the bed and the matteress. While I would have loved to purchase a really nice bed I didn't think it would be wise due to possible sticker, marker, and crayon issues. They were $300 and up with no matteress! So I went to Big Lots and got a bed with storage underneath for only $99. We purchased a really good seally matteress at Sam's Club. The cheep mattereses are just that CHEEP. He loves it and has never fallen out of bed. I have notice some other moms that have just put the matteress on the floor. It's so much easier and the kids don't really care. Good Luck in your search for what is right for you and your little girl.

I was wondering the same thing. I am going to get a twin bed that way if I have company I have a place for them to sleep even if my daughter will not use the bed.

Hi R.,
I agree with the other moms. I went straight to a twin bed. A couple of pointers:
Make sure you get a matress cover for accidents - you can find them at like a ross, target or TJ max - you can also get cute sheets for the kids at ross and their inexpensive. You can also buy washable mattress pads at target online for cheap and it comes in handy for midnight accidents.
Get side rails- you can buy them almost anywhere but you have to buy them individually so if you need two it can be kind of costly. I bought mine at a local kids consignment store for $15 for both. Every kids consignment store will probably have atleast one!
The toddler bed will be outgrown before you know it and for what you might spend for a toddler bed, toddler bed sheets, etc. you would have been better off buying a twin bed. If shes a climber, she might find it exciting just getting (climbing) onto her big girl bed at nighttime and with the rails you don't have to worry about safty!

Hello R.-
With both of my children I went straight to a twin bed. I had either onside against the wall and the other with a bed rail or I just had 2 bed rails 1 on each side. They adjusted very well . I only had one of them fall out of their bed and he didn't even wake up. Hope this has helped.
