We used the original with my daughter for a couple of years, and everytime we were in the airport with it were questioned on where we got it. Definitely a lifesaver. We didn't check our carseat at the gate. At least with the original version you can buckle your carseat into the airplane seat without taking off the wheels. Just make sure you use the seat belt extender. On my first trip I didn't, and while I was able to buckle the seatbelt without it we had a very difficult time getting the buckle undone as it was behind the carseat in a hard to reach position. We had two airplane mechanics helping trying to get it unbuckled and were close to removing the airplane seat when we finally got it undone. As long as you use the seat belt extender to position the buckle to the side of the carseat you won't have any problems. Happy travelling!

We have one and LOVE it. We don't even take a stroller to the airport. We just tote him along in it. It has made life so much easier. Well worth the purchase.

This is the BEST invention in the world. We were so worried about traveling to Florida with our daughter and this thing made it so easy! We were able to check our stroller in the beginning and then gate check our carseat when we boarded.

If you need to borrow one, please let me know and we might be able to help out.

I have one and LOVED it, when I had to use it. FOR SURE worth the $80, even though I have only used it once so far. :) Mine is NOT universal though, it's only for a Britax Marathon or (I believe) Roundabout Carseat. I have both carseats, but have only used it so far with the Marathon. If you happen to have a Britax, then I'd be willing to let you borrow it.

On a side note, I also noticed that our daughters are just 4 days apart...my youngest daughter was born Sept. 5, 2006. :) They are at a great age right now, and it only gets better.

I got a ride on carry on...a seat that attaches to your carry on! You can find it on the net. I got a good deal on ebay. I just check the car seat in & this is less cumbersome, invented by a stewardess Mom.

Hello,
I know you can rent the travelmate. You originally spend the same as buying it but when you return from your trip you can just return it and they will refund 49.00 of your money. Meaning you are paying the 30.00 only for the 30 days or so that you use it! Might be an option! Hope it works out okay! Happy traveling!
P.S. here is the website to rent from:

Didn't have one of these - we made our own. We used a set of luggage cart wheels that you can pick up <"Suitcase wheels"> at a local Wal-mart, any luggage store or at the airport gift shop. We use 3-6 small bungee cords and attach it right to the cart. We then put the childs 'things' in the seat or one of the carried bags <or everyones coats> and off we go. Total costs - less than $20!!
Good Luck.
