Gift Ideas for Our Future Son's Birthmom

My husband and I are overjoyed that we have been chosen by a birthmom to adopt a son. We have spoken on the phone but will meet her for the first time in a few weeks. I want to bring her a little gift but don't know what. I don't want it to be hokey or corney but something she would appreciate. It is typical to give her a gift after the baby is born but I want to present her with something when we first meet. Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

What a really nice gift from the parents of my boy to give was an album with his new family with a description of every one. (GRandparents and where they lived and what they liked, hobbies and all stuff they did.) It's something I saved and thought about later when I wondered what he was doing. It was an open adoption so I talk to him often and he likes to tell me what he does when he visits his grandparents. I can ask him questions about specific stuff because I have an idea of what their place looks like. I got to meet them also when my son was older, about five when I was driving across country. They are everything the adoptive parents described in the album. He's about to be thirteen now and I'm very proud of him.

I was a birth mom in my teen years and I agree with the gift card for maternity clothes, depending on how far along she is. If it's an open adoption and you intend to send pictures, an album would be good. If it's closed, at the risk of sounding mercenary, extra cash in a card for gas or groceries is usually appreciated. Congratulations!

This occasion is all about "Hokey and Corney"! Congratulations on your soon-to-be son! Nothing short of miraculous about every birth, topped off with your situation, let her know how thankful you feel! How about a card of "thanks" with a poem about the gift she is giving you. You should be able to find something online or at Borders/Barnes & Noble. Whatever gift you give in addition to the card and poem will be icing on the cake.
manicure/pedicure gift certificate
mall gift card (can get maternity clothes or anything she is 'into'.
depending on her situation - grocery store or restaurant gift card.
Hope these ideas inspire more. :) Best wishes!

Wow, congratulations. I think it's a wonderful time for you and for the birth mom. The best gift for this lady carying the your soon to be child would be a prenatal massage and/or maternity shop for prego clothes. I'd also, more immediately send her a bunch of flowers and card saying how amazingly grateful you are. What an amazing thing - birth mothers, wow. I'm so happy for you. You have a ton to be greatful for. Children and family are what life is about. For you, adopting a child, wow for you - you are a special, beautiful woman and I think you will be sooooo happy with your new bundle. Good luck to you with your new family!!!

Congratulations! What an exciting time. How about a gift certificate for a massage, just make sure they do pregnancy massages- not all do, or manicure & pedicure. Maternity clothes are always good too. Good luck with your first meeting!

First, I'd make sure it's okay to give her a gift now (if you haven't already). I think a gift certificate to a store that carries maternity clothing might be nice. Chocolate's always good too. :)

Congrats to the parents-to-be!

Congratulations to you on this wonderful addition to your family! You might consider something like this Key of Courage ( http://www.shopouaf.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&... ) to let the birth mother know how much you value and respect the the courage she is showing during this journey. It's a small pewter key inscribed with the word "Courage" and would be a meaningful memento paired with a hand written note from you and your husband expressing your gratitude to her.

If you are having a very open adoption where you will continue contact with her, you could go to Things Remembered and get a photo album. Have the plate engraved with something to the effect of saying thank you for giving us the greatest gift ever, etc. for her to put pictures of the baby in.
