I'm a big fan of either gift cards or food trays. I've ordered trays for people with summer sausages, cheeses, cheese spreads, and candy in them. They have always been a hit! They're not very expensive either, you can get a really nice sized one for around $30. I don't like to give regular gifts because you never know what kinds of things that person already has, and maybe they don't really want anymore knick knack type things.

I am due any day and will be the last delivery for my retiring OB. I would love to know what you ended up giving yours. Any suggestions?

Gifts like that are a hard one. I'm not a big flower person - I like gifts that last. I know gift cards are sometimes not that personal, but what about a gift card to a book store and a/or Starbucks gift card. We got our pediatrician a gift card to Barnes and Noble and she loved it. Books always seem to be a good gift. If you know his plans for retirement, you could pick out a book based on that activity/travel. Or, does he golf? A gift card for a round of golf? A friend of mine ordered a cake for the office on the last day of a friend's retirement.

Best wishes!

There is the most BEAUTIFUL book called THE TWELVE GIFTS OF BIRTH. It talks about Joy, Strength, Hope, etc. The illustrations are simple, yet beautiful. I think it would be PERFECT, giving so many people those "precious gifts". I give it for baby showers ALL THE TIME. It isn't one of those books that you keep only when they are young, but a book for a lifetime.

I would think a nice floral arrangement ore even and edible arrangement and a nice heartfelt card sent to the office. This way he has something personal from you and his office staff feels appreciated as well (I'm guessing they may be feeling a little lost going into this as well).

I'm the wife of a newly practicing OB/Gyn, and I bet (if he's married or in a relationship) your OB would enjoy a gift card to his favorite restaurant. That way, he and his wife/significant other can have a date night to celebrate their "new" life together, post-career. It's a very time-consuming job, and it's hard for many physicians to have the time to spend with their families. Another idea would be to get him a gift certificate toward a round of golf, if he's a golfer, or maybe tickets to one of his favorite sporting events. Or, you can find out if he has a unique hobby, and give him a gift certificate that he can spend on that. It's so nice and thoughtful that you're recognizing him at the end of his career! Cheers to you!
