For their 50th anniversary I made them a pretty potpourri lamp. I filled it with pretty potpourri and then added some clear tiny Christmas lights. As the lights were on the scent went in the air around the lamp. It was really unique and pretty. I used a lot of gold accents in the potpourri and I thought they really liked it.

Well, both modern and traditional gifts for the 60th anniversary is Diamond. I can't afford anything diamond....I can spend about $20 total. The live in the Tulsa area and the party is during the Holiday vacation time so we will be going for sure if I can find the right gift.

I can make anything I see, I am talented in sewing and crafting but have no imagination, I cannot just think up an idea. I have to see something and get the idea from that. I can make something "my own" creation by adding touches but as for just coming up with an idea....not my brain.

I'd like to make something if possible. I love the hands on and personal touch. Do you have any ideas? I don't have a ton of pictures of them through out their lives and their kids are big genealogy buffs so they have ton's of scrapbooks and family history things.

I just keep thinking of things that won't work.

Please spark my imagination!!!! I need your suggestions!

What can I do next?

How about a letter from the president? You can send a request for it and then have it framed for them.

A collection of 60 things about the day they were married ... Written or printed from the computer in a nice book with some accompanying pictures to represent the 60 things. Google could help find things about that day ... The headlines, popular songs, movies, etc.

Do you knit or crochet? A diamond motif afghan would be pretty. Or even a small quilt ...

A rose bush with diamond in the name.

Just a few things.

Well, you may not be able to do diamond, the rock, but what about diamond the shape? As far as WHAT to do with it, I have no idea, I'm not terribly creative either, but maybe it's a starting point??

Check some local jewelry shops. Ask them about pricing for engraving or etching. Maybe they have nicknames they call each other or a philosophy for staying together so long. Perhaps find an album that you can have engraved and with the help of the kids, you can fill it with some great photos.

My husband and I worked for a cemetery who had quite a side business of etching wine glasses, platters, etc. I designed a beautiful, personalized platter for my husband's parents and my mother-in-law kept it on display.

As far as I know, the man there still does it and they ship things all over. I can give you his contact info if you want to private message me.

You can't send them to the Bahamas on $20, but I'm sure you can think of something very thoughtful and lasting.

My in-laws are gone now, but we still have the platter we made them. It's really beautiful and makes us think of them when we get it out to use it.

Best wishes to you!

Can you make a big furry throw - big enough for two? That, along with a couple of "popcorn" bowls and a box of microwave popcorn would make a lovely gift. (Or two mugs and some hot chocolate mix.)

-Or throw another $5 in and get them a $25 gift certificate so they can go out to dinner.

It's nice you put so much thought into your gifts.

I was just at a big craft store and they have many things that sparkle just "like" diamonds. After 60 years, they probably have everything and more, so how about a couple of decorative pillows, with lots of sparkles and include the (60th) in the center, for their bed or couch?

Find a picture of the couple from years ago and put it in a nice frame and write them a short letter congratulating them.
